Profile Summary:

The VP of Tax is a pivotal role within the Controllership team. Reporting to the Head of Tax and Reporting, this role will oversee all aspects of the tax department, including planning, accounting, mergers and acquisitions, compliance, and audits. The AVP of Tax Reporting will report directly to this role.

Profile Description:

  • Manage federal, state, and international tax compliance.

  • Oversee federal, state, and international tax planning to achieve operational efficiency, while providing tax savings.

  • Review GAAP (ASC 740) and statutory income tax provisions.

  • Manage the independent audit of the tax provision.

  • Oversee audits of federal, state, and local taxes.

  • Lead due diligence efforts for mergers and acquisitions, advising controller and chief legal counsel on critical issues and documenting key tax positions.

  • Manage key tax attributes such as NOLs and tax credits.

  • Oversee the quality and costs of outside providers.

  • Participate in tax lobbying efforts and collaborate with the ACLI to advocate for policies that align with the company's interests.

  • Monitor and anticipate changes in state and federal tax rules, regulations, and interpretations.

  • Collaborate with various internal and external teams/stakeholders, including the CFO, business unit leads, Treasury, FP&A, outside advisors, and external auditors.

  • Develop and train the tax team.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • 15 years of experience in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department.

  • Excellent understanding of federal, state, and local tax rules and regulations.

  • Proven ability to develop and motivate the tax department.

  • Strong motivation to understand the company, its competitors, and relevant tax provisions.

  • In-depth understanding of insurance tax.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to partner with and educate business leaders on critical tax/business issues.

  • Skilled at building relationships across the enterprise through collaboration, teamwork, consensus building, and interpersonal effectiveness.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

  • CPA with a Master's in Tax or JD.

Compensation Pay Disclosure:

Voya is committed to pay that’s fair and equitable, which means comparable pay for comparable roles and responsibilities.

The below annual base salary range reflects the expected hiring range(s) for this position in the location(s) listed. In addition to base salary, Voya offers incentive opportunities (i.e., annual cash incentives, sales incentives, and/or long-term incentives) based on the role to reward the achievement of annual performance objectives. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Voya Financial is willing to pay at the time of this posting.

Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted salary range based upon the candidate’s geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

$180,000 - $220,000
