We work collaboratively with the Victorian State Government to ensure we fulfill regulatory requirements, deliver State projects and safeguard customer data. The Victorian State Government retains sole responsibility for road access, infrastructure and safety.

About the Opportunity
The Manager Data Engineering & Platforms will oversee the development, engineering, implementation and operation of VicRoads’ data platform, ensuring that the data platform is developed strategically and meets the goals and objectives of business. Reporting to the Head of Data, the Manager Data Engineering & Platforms will lead a team of data professionals, providing technical guidance and fostering a collaborative environment to drive innovation and efficiency.
About you
You are an experienced data leader with over seven years of proven success managing technical teams and data platforms. With deep expertise in modern data technologies—such as Databricks, dbt, Spark/Python, Confluent Kafka, and Power BI/Power Platform—you bring strong architectural knowledge and hands-on capability. You have experience across cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and a solid command of data integration, orchestration, automation, and warehousing.
You understand the importance of data security, governance, and compliance with privacy regulations. You take an active role in identifying and managing risks, including fraud and corruption, and are confident in applying frameworks like the Fraud and Corruption Control Framework to uphold integrity within your teams.
You collaborate effectively with stakeholders, translating business needs into scalable solutions and supporting the commercialisation of data products. Skilled in Agile and DevOps environments, you lead with clarity, mentor technical teams, and communicate with influence. Bonus points if you bring knowledge of VicRoads systems, metadata management tools, or experience applying AI and machine learning in data platforms.
