Commercial Claims Specialist

Hybrid role: Training 100% in-office (6-9 months); post training 4 days a week in office and work from home 1 day a week

We are seeking a skilled Commercial Claims Adjuster to investigate, evaluate, and resolve complex claims across multiple states. This role requires expertise in commercial operations, liability laws, and policy interpretation. The ideal candidate will have experience handling high-exposure claims, investigating complex liability, and analyzing intricate coverage issues. This individual must possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage claims involving multimodal transport, contractual disputes, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

CONDUCTS necessary investigations thru various communication channels to determine policy coverage and details of claims by correspondence, telephone, personal contact or through contact by staff adjusters with policyholders and/or their representatives, claimants, and other interested parties.

EVALUATES claims where insureds are business entities (e.g. owner-operators, fleets, or logistics companies) with multiple drivers or vehicles and partners with business owners, risk managers, fleet managers, and safety officers from insured businesses to guide claim resolutions.

MANAGES claims with higher financial exposures including property damage in excess of personal auto thresholds, business to business contracts, third party logistics, or sub-contracted carriers

ANALYZES information and DETERMINES the Company's liability under the policy contract in losses involving commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, delivery trucks, and other commercial vehicles.

REVIEW and apply commercial auto policy forms, including combined single limits, MCS-90 endorsements, and other excess coverage. INTERPRET and apply federal and state DOT regulations, including hours of service, driver qualifications, vehicle inspections, and FMCSA compliance.

DETERMINES possible subrogation recovery.

Requirements:

  • Must have commercial claims experience - 1 year minimum
  • Must be able to speak in a professional manner by telephone
  • Must be able to attain and maintain the required licenses issued by the insurance departments of various states
  • Must be able to handle heavy call volume in a fast paced work environment, resolve complex business problems and handle complicated customer issues
  • Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting skills
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
  • Must be able to work varying schedules to meet staffing or phone volume needs
