The College of Veterinary Medicine is recruiting a Registered Veterinary Technician to work in its Spectrum of Care Clinic.  The Veterinary Care Technician for the Frank Stanton Veterinary Spectrum of Care Clinic provides high level patient care in a fast-paced, high patient load, Veterinary Primary Care practice facility with a mission focused on teaching Veterinary Students. Technicians assist faculty and students with assessment, treatment, and procedures related to quality patient care. The position requires excellent clinical nursing skills including but not limited to venipuncture, catheter placement, triage, CPR, wound care, administering IV/IM/SQ injections, monitoring sedation, radiographic positioning, anesthesia, dentistry, and surgical assisting. Detailed knowledge of biological parameters and value interpretation, ICU protocols, dosages and calculations, CRI and fluid management, restraint techniques, ability to triage and take action in emergent situations as well as the ability to acquire vitals and monitoring hospitalized patients for changing needs is also crucial for this position.

The technician must be able to communicate effectively with clients, administration, other technicians, and faculty while possessing lab skills including working knowledge of lab equipment and protocols, skilled in preparing and reading blood smears/cytology/fecal. Must be able to accurately track patient progress and keep proper documentation as well as effectively learn and use electronic medical record program. Frequent use of anesthesia and radiological machines is also expected. The position is responsible for maintaining clean and efficient work areas and performing end-of-shift duties which may include dust mopping, wet mopping, laundry, and trash removal. Technicians are expected to mentor and train new employees and participate in regular continuing education to maintain required state licensing.  

Hiring Range:  $23.89 - $29.86

Physical Requirements: lifting 40-50 pounds; Long periods of standing and/or sitting or kneeling on the floor. Extensive typing and computer work. Risks involve exposure to animal dander, rabies, other zoonotic diseases, parasiticides, animal inflicted injuries, anesthetic gases, chemotherapy, gamma ray equipment, irritant chemicals
