The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science invites applications for a part-time Research Associate II. The hire may be approved to work remotely.

Department Specific Functions

The selected candidate will work directly with the CIMAS Director and Associate Director. The principal duties of this position include:

• Implement a comprehensive engagement strategy that aligns with grant goals and meets the needs of diverse stakeholders, including local governments, community organizations, industry representatives, and underserved populations.
• Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with stakeholders to encourage active participation and co-creation of knowledge. Ensure that stakeholder feedback and concerns are acknowledged and incorporated into project processes and outputs.
• Manage communication channels and tools that translate complex climate data into accessible and actionable insights for stakeholders and communities. Facilitate workshops, webinars, round tables and collaborative meetings to share project updates, gather input, and promote informed decision-making.
• Provide organizational support where needed to ensure smooth project operations, including documentation and deliverables, tracking milestones, and the creation of digital media and outreach campaigns.
• Track stakeholder engagement activities and assess their effectiveness as a metric to measure success. Provide regular reports to project leadership and funding bodies, highlighting successes, challenges, and lessons learned to refine the engagement approach.
• Collaborate with policymakers, researchers, and community leaders to integrate project findings into local and regional climate adaptation plans, fostering long-term partnerships that extend beyond the project's lifecycle. (this is a possibility for post grant tracking success)

Minimum Qualifications

• Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, physical science, public policy, communication, social science, or a related field.and at least 2 years of work experience.
• Experience in project coordination, communications and event planning is required.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities with team members effectively.
• Experience in translating complex scientific or technical information into formats accessible to non-specialists
• Familiarity with Miami’s environmental landscape and the challenges posed by extreme weather events in the region, experience working on projects involving these challenges
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in professional correspondence, community outreach, and stakeholder engagement.
• Proficiency in digital tools and platforms for communications and outreach (e.g., social media, website content management systems, graphic design platforms, newsletters).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and project management software.
• Ability to work collaboratively with scientists, faculty, community and external partners.
