Kaluza reimagines energy to bring net-zero within everyone’s reach. Our intelligent platform enables energy utilities to unlock the full value of a radically changing energy system and propel us to a future where renewable energy is sustainable, affordable and accessible for all.

From automating and simplifying core operations including billing to create a lower-cost, higher-engagement experience, to optimising energy usage across smart devices in the home, we turn tough challenges into win-win-win outcomes for customers, suppliers and the energy system.

At Kaluza we embrace a flexible, hybrid work model that balances autonomy with the power of in-person connection. Many of our teams find value in coming together regularly to collaborate, strengthen relationships, and accelerate progress. We’re focused on shaping thoughtful, team-driven approaches that support both business impact and individual well-being.

We also prioritise meaningful company-wide gatherings like our annual conference and end-of-year celebrations, that bring us together to align, connect, and celebrate.

What will I be doing?

As a Mid-Level Pre-Sales Engineer, you are an experienced technical professional who can independently drive aspects of the pre-sales process. You’ll work on crafting and presenting solutions that solve client problems in the energy domain, bridging the gap between customer needs and our product capabilities. You are expected to handle typical sales cycles with moderate complexity from a technical standpoint, while working with senior team members on particularly large or novel deals.

This role will report to the Head of Client Solutions and you’ll be part of a team that works on sales to Kaluza’s largest clients globally. You will have broad expertise on Kaluza’s product suite and our value differentiators and will develop depth in particular areas of our products. You will have a good understanding of the challenges facing retailers from a client or user perspective and be able to show-case how our solutions solve them..

You will play a crucial role in building product demonstrations and collateral that evangelises the Kaluza platform.

Your key responsibilities broadly include:

Solution Design & Delivery:

  • Collaborate with the sales and product teams to deeply understand each client’s requirements and pain points, and design tailored solutions leveraging our platform.
  • Work with internal product and engineering teams, articulating requirements and how these should be surfaced within our platform.
  • You will lead product demonstrations in your sales meetings – configuring and presenting the software live to illustrate how our solution addresses the client’s energy technology needs (e.g., showcasing how our software handles retail customer  journeys).
  • During demos, you’ll confidently answer detailed technical questions and adjust the demonstration flow on the fly based on client feedback.

Proof-of-Concept Execution:

  • Develop and deliver customized proof-of-concept implementations to showcase product capabilities.
  • This means you might set up a mini-deployment of our solution for a client’s specific scenario – for example, simulating localised market interaction scenarios and how these are adaptable to the clients local needs.
  • You’ll coordinate with the client’s technical contacts to get necessary data or access and ensure the PoC meets success criteria.

Technical Advisor in Sales Cycles:

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor for clients throughout the sales process, leveraging your developed depth areas.
  • This involves translating client business goals into technical requirements and then into actionable solutions. For example, stepping customers through particular customer interactions, articulating the simplicity surfaced to the Energy Advisor whilst our solutions perform the undifferentiated heavy lifting - and how this all adds up to reducing a retailers cost to serve.
  • You also address any technical objections or concerns the customer raises, leveraging your knowledge where appropriate, but knowing when and where to bring in a product specialist if needed for very deep topics.
  • Your role is to build the client’s confidence that our solution fits their needs.

Feedback and Continuous Improvement:

  • After engagements, gather client feedback about our product and convey insights to the product management and engineering teams.
  • If multiple prospective customers ask for a certain feature or have similar difficulties, you recognize the pattern and raise it internally (closing the loop between market needs and product development).
  • For example, you might note “Several utility companies asked if our software can do X” and work with product managers to consider that in the roadmap. In doing so, you contribute to shaping the product to better suit the industry.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • You regularly collaborate with colleagues in engineering and product to troubleshoot complex issues that arise during demos or trials.
  • For example, if a demo scenario requires a slight tweak or a new dataset, you coordinate with the engineering team to obtain that.
  • You may also partner with marketing or product marketing to refine technical content (like contributing to an RFP question bank or writing a solution brief), since you have direct exposure to what clients ask.

About You

Ideally you’ll…

  • Be passionate about renewable energy and consumer businesses.
  • Have strong attention to detail and willingness to learn quickly.
  • Be a team player, open communicator and collaborator.
  • Have a growth mindset - sharing and learning without prompting.
  • Have a proven ability to communicate clearly
  • Be comfortable operating with autonomy and through ambiguity
  • Have a start-up mentality and ability to self-organise.
  • Be passionate about working in a dynamic environment and responding to change.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and distil complex concepts into easy to understand points.
  • Have high emotional intelligence and ability to empathise and work through differing opinions.
  • Know your strengths, yet recognise there’s always more to learn from others.
  • Build bridges with people across the organisation.

What will set you apart

  • Experience in the energy industry, in software sales consulting or in a relevant client organisation.
  • Experience in a role that demonstrates a customer centric focus.
  • Strong technical proficiency – comfortable working with and describing synchronous APIs, scripting and configuration, along with an understanding of web/cloud technologies (for software products)
  • Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to both engineers and business-minded clients.
  • Able to work independently on client projects, manage your time across multiple sales opportunities, and collaborate with a cross-functional team.
  • Problem-solving skills are essential – you should have examples of adapting a technical solution to meet a customer’s unique needs.
  • Know when and how to measure success. You don’t just use data, you know when to use what sort of data and the questions you need to help you answer.
