What You Will Do

You will provide engineering support and drafting expertise in relation to the Structural Design Section’s work associated with TTC’s transit facilities and structures; prepare drawings using Computer Aided Drafting and Design systems (CADD), assist in the production of complete design documents for construction; liaise and coordinate with other design disciplines to check and ensure the coherence and consistency of information on preliminary and final drawings for the structural components of projects.

 

You will prepare structural drawings for various projects in accordance with TTC Design Standards and various codes, engineers' notes, rough sketches, verbal instructions and design concepts; prepare structural layout drawings for various station structures and TTC facilities; assist in developing standard/directive drawings; assist in preparing contract documents, field visit reports, feasibility studies, work plans, preliminary design reports, and other correspondence related to the work; assist in reviewing existing conditions, drawings, specifications, and material submissions; obtain additional data necessary for the completion of accurate drawings and specifications, and conformity with TTC specifications; visit and inspect TTC facilities, track levels or construction project sites and record existing conditions or deficiencies; collect field inspection data; exchange information with other disciplines; assist in construction support and to Operations Department, as needed.

Key Job Functions continued
  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma in a related discipline (e.g. Civil Engineering Technology), along with several years of related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Possession of structural drafting experience related to transit structures is an asset.
  • Good working knowledge of CADD in general and specifically the use of Bentley Microstation software, as well as Microsoft Office computer applications.
  • Good drafting and technical report writing skills, as well as good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge of drafting principles, methods and practices for structural contract drawings for reinforced concrete, structural steel, prestressed concrete, masonry, timber and other structures.  
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and other applicable codes and regulations, building construction practices and the properties of construction materials.
  • A valid Province of Ontario Class G Driver’s licence, and use of own vehicle for occasional project site visits is an asset.
