Job Title: Web Developer
Location: Remote/Hybrid (Berkeley, CA)
Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week, Monday–Friday)
Duration: 3–4 Month Contract (with potential extension based on funding and business needs)
Pay Rate: $60/hour + Benefits

Position Overview:

Bay Systems Consulting is seeking a Web Developer to support the Human Resources Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. This role is critical in rebuilding, modernizing, and maintaining the HR website infrastructure to improve user experience, platform alignment, content accuracy, and long-term sustainability. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in WordPress, website planning, cybersecurity-aware design, and collaboration with non-technical stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:
Website Rebuilding & Maintenance
  • Lead the rebuilding of the HR website to enhance functionality, usability, and accessibility
  • Establish and implement a sustainable website maintenance plan
  • Remove outdated content and prevent its visibility via search engines
  • Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting across browsers and platforms
Project Planning & Collaboration
  • Work closely with HR Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to translate content and functional needs into user-friendly web experiences
  • Develop a structured plan and production schedule for connecting and consolidating content across WordPress and Google Sites
  • Recommend platform assignments based on audience type: Public (WordPress), Lab Community, and Internal HR use
  • Create prototypes and seek SME feedback before full implementation, ensuring alignment with UX/UI and accessibility best practices
  • Provide guidance and consultation to HR SMEs throughout development and maintenance phases
Content Management & Platform Alignment
  • Organize and manage HR content tailored for both public-facing and internal audiences
  • Modify existing pages, content access levels, and update site structures as needed
  • Ensure all web content is accurate, current, and accessible
Compliance, Design & Visual Identity
  • Align all HR web pages with Berkeley Lab’s visual standards, branding guidelines, and cybersecurity policies
  • Assist with building HR web templates consistent with Lab-approved graphics
  • Leverage visual assets for web presentations (e.g., PowerPoint, Google Slides)
  • Provide regular updates to HR management regarding IT requirements and web compliance changes

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining websites within cybersecurity-constrained environments
  • Proficiency with WordPress and Google Sites
  • Strong grasp of UX/UI principles, accessibility standards, and content architecture
  • Ability to manage full development cycles including conceptualization, design, testing, and rollout
  • Comfortable working with and guiding non-technical stakeholders
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements in a research or government-affiliated environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet competing deadlines
  • General graphic design proficiency for banners, templates, and basic web visuals
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Education & Experience Requirements:
  • 3-7 years of experience in professional web development
  • Demonstrated experience creating, managing, and maintaining websites with a focus on UX/UI
  • Experience working across both public and internal web platforms, particularly with WordPress and Google Sites
