CNC Machinist Co-Op -Tuscaloosa, AL
SWJ Technologie specializes in providing engineering, planning, and project management services across various industries. We are currently seeking a Management Assistant / Internal Quality Associate candidate. This is a Direct Hire role based in Tuscaloosa AL, that requires an onsite presence. PURPOSE: 
This hands-on role provides foundational training in CNC machining and manufacturing processes. The position focuses on programming and setup using Mastercam, operating 3-axis and 7-axis CNC machines, and supporting production workflows. Responsibilities include assisting with machine setup, tool changes, work holding, and materials preparation. The role emphasizes quality control through the use of basic metrology tools and advanced inspection equipment such as the Faro Arm. Trainees will gain exposure to tooling selection, cutting parameters, and various material behaviors. Additionally, the position requires adherence to 5S and safety standards, while promoting collaboration with mentors and team members to foster continuous learning and development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Training in Programming and Setup:
    Learn to create basic CNC programs in Mastercam, with a focus on understanding toolpaths, offsets, and machine setup procedures.
  •  Hands-On Machine Operation:
    Assist in setting up and operating both 3-axis and 7-axis CNC machines under supervision. Gain familiarity with tool changes, work holding, and machine controls.
  • Support in Production Processes:
    Contribute to the production of machined parts by supporting the setup, monitoring, and inspection processes. Help prepare materials and tooling for jobs.
  • Introduction to Quality Control and Measurement:
    Use basic measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to inspect parts. Learn to operate a Faro Arm for advanced dimensional inspection, including data collection and part verification.
  • Learning Tooling and Materials:
    Observe and assist in tooling selection and material preparation. Gain knowledge about cutting speeds, feeds, and the behavior of various materials.
  • Workplace Safety and Organization:
    Follow 5S principles and company safety procedures. Maintain a clean and organized work area and learn proper handling of tools and materials.
  • Collaboration and Development:
    Work closely with mentors and senior machinists. Receive ongoing feedback, attend team meetings, and contribute to a supportive learning environment Cross-Department Administrative Support:
    Resume conversion for TA, Power-point support for BUM, Excel charts for F&C, Inventory data collection as well as errands for Management.
EDUCATION:
  • College degree in a Technical field and CNC machining or Manufacturing or related field required.
  • Internship or Co-op experience is preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a technical college program in CNC machining, manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of CNC machine operations and G-code principles.
  • Exposure to Mastercam or similar CAM software is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn advanced measurement technologies, such as a Faro Arm.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and willingness to follow instructions.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to professional growth
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work is generally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting to 25 lbs.
  • Will experience periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.
