By 2025, KIPP DC will build upon two decades of proven results to develop into a more impactful, innovative, and inclusive school system that provides joyful, identity-affirming learning experiences so that all students and alumni achieve extraordinary outcomes. We are a network of eighteen schools educating nearly 7,000 students and employing 1,400 teachers, leaders, and staff members dedicated to our mission. As part of the KIPP network’s 255 schools, we share best practices and innovations with our peers across the city and country.
Our work is grounded in a commitment to excellence, equity, and justice. We believe all students have the right to rigorous, relevant, and joyful learning experiences led by exceptionally talented and diverse educators who promote student achievement and a sense of belonging. We pride ourselves on providing unparalleled professional development and leadership opportunities. We acknowledge the demands of the teaching profession and continually seek to improve sustainability, benefits, and support for teachers. We are seeking staff who are passionate about educational equity, driven by student and family relationships, and constantly seeking to grow.
Virtual Learning at KIPP DC
Enrollment in the KIPP DC Innovate Virtual Program has highlighted a need for a virtual learning option, primarily in our middle school grades. Moreover, we have received inquiries from multiple high school families expressing interest in this program.
In response to the evolving landscape and the expressed needs of our families for a virtual option for Middle and High school students, we are adjusting the scope of our program. We aim to better align with the demand we are currently observing, particularly from our 5-12 families.
The goal of KIPP DC Innovate Virtual Program is to develop a desire and love for learning in students in our virtual program. Staff members give students in our program personalized experience, seeking to know a child, their family, their strengths, and their areas for growth, in a fully virtual space. The virtual program strives to provide students with an intensive foundation in the core academic subjects through core content instruction, enrichment classes, and Personalized Learning Programs. Teachers in our virtual classrooms use KIPP DC curriculum, modified as necessary, to support students in their learning. Virtual staff cultivate a strong sense of belonging and a strong relationship with their virtual classroom of students and families.
Through powerful learning experiences and relationships, our virtual learning program will drive student learning in English Language Arts, math, science, social studies, special education, and enrichment options. In core subjects, 5th-8th grade teachers implement research-based curricula that are Common Core aligned and student centered. KIPP DC curricula is added to and revised by a committee of teachers and leaders focusing on culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy. Our teachers are experts not only in their content area(s), but also in virtual instruction.
Through planning time, content meetings, and daily student work/data analysis, virtual teachers work collaboratively with peers in the virtual school program and across our network. Staff receive feedback and support from a school leader, network content coaches, and other teammates. School culture at the virtual program is grounded in Positive Behavior Incentives Systems (PBIS) led by the Manager of Student Success. Student identity and creativity is recognized through weekly celebrations.
