Description

  

The Planned Giving Officer is pivotal in securing planned, private financial gifts for Partnership with Native Americans (PWNA). The position's core responsibility is to meet or exceed annual and multi-year goals by helping to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects and donors for planned gifts. This role actively contributes to building long-term partnerships and enhancing existing relationships with PWNA donors resulting in financial commitments for the organization.


Job Responsibilities

  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising objectives, achieve targets for funds raised, contacts made, successful solicitations, and other key performance indicators.
  • Manage a portfolio of 100-150 active PWNA planned gift donor prospects
  • Conduct a minimum of 25 face-to-face visits annually.
  • Execute at least 50 monthly contacts, emphasizing personal, direct interactions, with up to 25% travel, including overnight stays and occasional weekends.
  • Document contacts, following policies for accepting, recording, and acknowledging gifts.
  • Ensure accuracy in all systems and processes, including gift documentation and reporting, aligning with organizational needs by developing standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate across fundraising channels to optimize balanced donor relationships.
  • Together with the Director of Planned Giving help identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned giving prospects, and serve as the primary point of contact for a personal portfolio of planned giving donors.
  • Maintain the donor funnel, recording and tracking interactions using PWNA’s NetFORUM system to avoid creating alternative records.
  • Enhance donor gift planning and giving by staying current on available gift possibilities and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Address donor planned gift inquiries, providing general information to educate and inform donors about planned gift vehicles aligned with their specific interests.
  • Take responsibility for gifts of estates, trusts, and various other financial venues, reflecting financial planning and deferred giving opportunities.
  • Respond to general donor calls, answer outright gift questions, process gifts, and introduce planned gift options when appropriate.
  • Accept and record outright gifts (with the help of Planned Gift Associate), and correspond with these      donors as needed.
  • Maintain updated records for incoming planned gift expectancies and realized planned gifts.
  • Review Campaign Mailing Lists  for accuracy and update as necessary.
  • Following mailings, conduct cultivation phone calls to assigned planned gift prospects, and document results.
  • Assist the Director of Planned Giving in developing annual operational plans and goals for the planned gift program.
  • Update the national Attorney  Reference List as needed.
  • Participate in planned giving forums and pursue ongoing education opportunities.
  • Prepare weekly activity reports, outlining specific action items to maximize net gift revenue.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

  

Required Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience.

· 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in non-profit development fundraising.

· Experience working with Native American communities in Indian Country and/or knowledge of Native American issues and history to ensure culturally sensitive and appropriate fundraising.

· A verifiable track record of fundraising success is required.

· Demonstrated ability to cultivate, expand, and support a diverse major donor base.


Skills:

· Understanding of planned gift vehicles and estate planning to effectively communicate tailored gift options to each donor.

· Willingness to work remotely and in the office as required.

· Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, making direct, in-person contact with donors and actively soliciting gifts under PWNA’s banner.

· Excellent communication skills: speaking, writing, and listening.

· Strong interpersonal skills with an aptitude for collaboration and coordination.

· Ability to integrate and articulate Native American strengths in messaging to donors and the public.

· Thrives on expanding networks and advocating for mission-driven programs.

· Strong technology skills and competence in the use of CRM Donor Database Management Software and planned giving software such as Crescendo and PG Calc.

Salary Description
$82,000-$84,000
