Job description

Remote from the US. 

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Kotlin Backend Developer to design and build scalable, secure, and cloud-native backend systems. In this contractor role, you will work directly with our client, collaborating with DevOps, frontend, and product teams to deliver enterprise-grade solutions.

This position is ideal for someone with strong Kotlin and Java/Spring Boot expertise, experience in distributed systems, and hands-on AWS knowledge.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop high-performance backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot
  • Build and optimize microservices in a distributed, cloud-native architecture
  • Leverage AWS managed services (e.g., EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB)
  • Deploy applications using Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS
  • Collaborate on infrastructure automation with Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and implement application security best practices
  • Participate in architectural discussions, code reviews, and team mentorship
  • Drive performance tuning and contribute to the evolution of the tech stack


Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in Java/Spring development
  • Professional currently based in the US - Must
  • US Citizen or Green Card Holder – Must
  • Strong expertise in Spring Boot
  • Hands-on experience with AWS (certification not required)
  • Proficiency in microservices architecture, Docker, and orchestration tools like Kubernetes or ECS
  • Experience with both SQL (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB) databases
  • Familiarity with AWS networking/security (IAM, VPCs, subnets) is a strong plus
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Experience with build tools (Maven/Gradle) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills


Nice to Have:

  • Experience in highly regulated or enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus)
  • Exposure to event-driven systems (Kafka, SQS/SNS)
