Job description

The Credit Asset Management role will be responsible for all asset management functions of real estate credit investing activities.

Responsibilities:

Prior to loan closing:
  • Actively participate and collaborate with the originations team on the underwriting of all new credit investments to ensure consistency through post-closing

  • Assist on diligence and closing processes of new credit investments

  • Review all loan documents and understand structure of the loans to accurately asset manage all loans post-closing

  • Proactively asset manage all real estate credit investments, including developing institutional asset management processes to ensure visibility and ability to address any potential concerns before concerns arise in deals

  • Maintain positive relationships with borrowers and counterparties, balancing oversight/control of deals with future business given we are in a relationship business

  • If a credit deal is not performing, run all workouts and potential remedies required to protect the investments, including loan negotiations in collaboration with other senior leaders of Real Estate Credit

  • Collaborate with senior team members within Real Estate Credit to develop a detailed quarterly risk management process of all real estate credit investments:

    • The quarterly risk management process will provide all investment professionals within Real Estate Credit of individual deal level performance, business plan updates and any deal-level covenants / milestones we need to address

    • The risk management process will also provide a forum to address any potential leverage updates needed with our counterparties

    • Collaborate with internal valuations team to supervise the internal quarterly risk management process

    • Liaise with external third-party valuation service providers when applicable

  • Supervise risk management and asset management lifecycle of all real estate credit investments:

    • Develop an internal real estate credit asset management tracking system for risk management and asset management

    • Anticipate potential deviations from underwritten business plans and or potential credit issues that may result in impact loan-level performance

    • Collaborate with other team members to address / front-run potential upcoming credit issues and coordinate with the team to share with counterparties and / or co-lenders

  • Supervise the third-party administrator/servicer and work with third-party loan administrator and servicer to ensure all loans are loaded to the third-party system:

    • Ensure all loans are onboarded accurately to the third-party system

    • Ensure the third-party administrator/servicer works efficiently with internal MIM operations department

    • Ensure all lenders, including our counterparties, receive all money flows accurately from the deals (loan cash waterfall, any reserve fundings/releases and loan fundings, etc.)

    • Provide help to third-party administrator, if they have questions on loan documents

  • Support all new originations activities, including lending an extra pair of hands with the loan closing process

  • Support financing / capital markets initiatives of the fund and deals such as warehouse, subline and deal-by-deal leverage

  • Collaborate with fund administrator to ensure all fund-level reporting on investments are accurate and reflected accurately

  • Actively engage in all business development initiatives including fundraising (investment case studies, pitchbooks, participating in meetings with potential investors)

  • Collaborate with other members of MIM’s Global Real Estate platform

  • Mentor and train junior members

Qualifications:

The Credit Asset Management role within Real Estate Credit will be a highly motivated, results oriented self-starter who can lead and handle the capital markets for real estate credit platform.  The ideal candidate possesses a minimum of 10 years of asset management experience on the buyside within a real estate credit fund, real estate private equity firm, mortgage REIT, or real estate investment bank, able to support and lead an outstanding asset management strategy for real estate credit investing in public and private credit.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, economics, or a related field.

  • Has experience as an asset manager for a real estate credit fund or mortgage REIT

  • Validated ability to actively lead asset management of real estate credit, both public and private credit

  • Excellent relationship-management skills to establish, cultivate and maintain positive relationships with institutional investors, partners, and clients.

  • Experience with loan asset management, including workout / foreclosure across full lifecycle of a deal

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrates attention to detail and can assess potential risks of investments

  • Comprehensive understanding of the financial markets, market trends, regulatory requirements, and the ability to develop and implement sound investment strategies

  • Strong strategic, analytical and risk assessment skills

Salary range is expected to be between

$174,000.00 USD - $326,000.00 USD
