Job description

State Portfolio Manager

As a State Portfolio Manager (SPM) at United Community, you will lead a team of Commercial Portfolio Managers focused on protecting and growing the Bank’s assets through proactive account management. This role is critical in consistency, transparency, and excellence across underwriting processes at the state level. You will partner closely with the State President and Commercial Credit Administration (CCA) to ensure alignment with loan policy, risk standards, and portfolio performance goals. This is a strategic leadership role that combines technical expertise, disciplined execution, and people development.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and coach a team of underwriters through the full deal lifecycle—from screening to approval, funding, and ongoing monitoring
  • Align underwriting, CRMs, and LOAs into cohesive Deal Teams to enhance client experience and operational consistency
  • Facilitate regular Deal Team meetings to review pipeline, renewals, past dues, covenants, and financial ticklers
  • Monitor team performance and provide coaching through quarterly quality scorecards
  • Collaborate with State President and Regional Credit Manager to meet portfolio quality, profitability, and growth goals
  • Partner with internal stakeholders including CRMs, Credit Approvers, and CCA to drive results
  • Lead periodic meetings to communicate policy and process updates

Requirements for Success 

  • 10+ years in commercial credit underwriting and portfolio management
  • 5+ years in a leadership or management role
  • Experience with CRE, Middle Market, ABL, and Not-for-Profit lending preferred
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred

  • This is a full-time, non-remote position
