Position Summary: Humanity United (HU) is seeking an experienced fixed-term Manager to support efforts within the Strategic Communications team, which is part of the organization’s larger Public Engagement portfolio. This role will provide support while an existing team member is on parental leave. The Manager will join a team of passionate human rights advocates committed to advancing HU’s mission and the goals of its programs and partners through effective use of communications strategies. This person will have the opportunity to collaborate with organizational and program partners working on crucial global issues and perform other communications tasks as needed.

The Manager, Communications is a full-time, fixed-term exempt position that will report to the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications from August 2025 to February 2026. This role can be based anywhere in the U.S. Our hybrid work approach provides for ongoing flexibility for regular remote work for this position, combined with periodic in-person gatherings.
Core Responsibilities
In partnership with the Senior Manager, Strategic Communications, determine strategy and maximize impact of external and internal communications efforts.
Support program teams to identify and secure opportunities to message our work to strategic audiences.
Partner with internal and external stakeholders to craft messages about key priorities, issues and initiatives.
Support the team in writing internal and external communications materials as needed.
Work with social media consultant to review, edit, and approve content and graphics for posting.
Update key communications documents for internal usage.
Manage the content for HU’s monthly external newsletter and collaborate with the Communications team to strengthen the newsletter strategy.
Segment and organize our audience lists in MailChimp.
Manage staff headshots at the All Staff Retreat in October.
Provide administrative and project management support to the team, as needed.

Programmatic requirements include:
Demonstrated and extensive work experience in communications or a related field.
Ability to thoughtfully engage colleagues to support their communications needs.
Ability to develop nuanced understanding of ways to amplify global issues and a wide range of organizations working to address them.
Exceptional skills in writing, organization, and both written and spoken communications.
Humility and dedication to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, partners, grantees, and others.
A strong belief in, and commitment to, HU’s core values, with a perspective on how to apply DEIJ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice) in communications.
Operational requirements include:
Strong collaborative skills, ability to cultivate relationships across multiple program and partner groups and with staff at all levels, with the flexibility and finesse to “manage by influence.”
Self-starter, able to work independently but also collaboratively.
A great teammate with a no-ego mentality, strong emotional intelligence and a positive outlook.
Strong project management skills; ability to balance reactive daily tasks and handle deadline pressure while also planning and stewarding multiple longer-term projects.
Ability to stay on top of new communications tools.
The ability to travel to the All Staff Retreat in Washington, DC in October.

Salary: The salary range for this position will vary by geographic location to account for local job market & cost of living. Starting salaries within the range are based on job-related skills, experience and background. At HU, salary progression is based on performance and proficiency in a role over time.
