Overview:

We are currently seeking a full-time Mandarin-speaking Governance Research Analyst. This position will be permanent and based in Sydney for the research and write-up of corporate governance and voting research for institutional shareholders of Chinese and Taiwanese companies publicly traded in the Greater China region and the United States. 

ISS Governance offerings include objective governance research and recommendations, and end-to-end proxy voting and distribution solutions. Institutional clients have long turned to ISS to apply their corporate governance views, identify environmental, social, and governance risks, and manage their complete proxy voting needs on a global basis. ISS covers approximately 48,000 meetings in 115 markets yearly, delivering proxy research and vote recommendations while working closely with clients to execute more than 12.8 million ballots representing 5.4 trillion shares.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze corporate governance and financial information to process data and write research reports on publicly traded companies in mainland China and Taiwan
  • Issue proxy vote recommendations for shareholder meetings of the companies listed on stock exchanges in mainland China and Taiwan
  • Develop market specific expertise in corporate governance, securities regulations, and proxy voting issues gathered through research and engagement with company executives, institutional investors, and government/regulatory/listing authorities
  • Lead or participate in engagement meetings and calls with corporate executives, directors, and financial and legal advisors, as well as institutional investors, as part of research process on high profile or contentious shareholder meetings
  • Develop market overviews and generate research notes on developing governance trends, emerging situations, and other governance-focused topics for internal and external clients
  • Contribute to seasonal reviews, bulletin calls, and other client-focused governance research reports
  • Answer internal/external client/corporate issuer queries on research reports and participate in discussions and development of ISS policy

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as finance, law, economics, business, accounting, political science, and international relations, or equivalent experience
  • Master's degree in a related field or MBA or CFA qualifications or equivalent work experience preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in research and analysis or any related fields is preferred, but open to New Graduates
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Chinese (both simplified and traditional) and English
  • Experience in financial analysis and knowledge of corporate governance and proxy voting issues preferred
  • Strong analytical ability, including financial statement literacy and attention to detail
  • Goal-oriented and comfortable with ambiguity and able to prioritize, anticipate, and deliver multiple, sometimes competing objectives under tight deadlines
  • Strong organization skills, teamwork, and ability to work independently 
  • Passion for corporate governance research
