Job Summary

To ensure that Business Units comply with all laws, regulations and supervisory requirements applicable to it, by providing an effective Compliance Risk Management framework and support.

Job Description

  •  

  • Providing Compliance support to the Corporate & Investment Banking, Retail and Business Banking which may include projects and or transactions, lessons learnt from reviews, testing and verification and audit outcomes
  • To provide proactive advice on conflicts management, transaction clearance, new products and business initiatives with Retail, Business banking and CIB
  • Manage the implementation of a risk-based approach to compliance within the business, by following the Regulatory Affairs and Compliance framework, which outlines the relevant Compliance methodology to be applied.
  • Implement and manage the operating framework for the identification, management, monitoring and reporting of Compliance risks and issues by making reference to the Compliance methodology.
  • Participating in the new product initiative process by reviewing new product proposals for compliance against local regulatory requirements
  • Develop and implement programme of regular meetings with internal stakeholders and assist forums in identifying and comprehending the regulatory compliance risk
  • Ensuring that the compliance culture is embedded in business to robustly manages regulatory and reputational risks and that the relevant policies are applied within the assigned business environments
  • Implement, embed and monitor Compliance policies, processes and methodology in the business operations.
  • Implement and comply with BIA audit recommendations.
  • Participate in relevant forums and committees to ensure that participants in these forums are adequately informed on regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Working closely with Head of Compliance in overseeing the activities of the Compliance team to ensure effective delivery of compliance-related matters pertaining to CIB, Retail and Business banking (e.g.  monthly reports, review findings, projects rolled, remediation’s etc.)
  • Providing assistance to the Head of Compliance by closing the knowledge gap among colleagues by encouraging frequent knowledge-sharing between team members and managers of compliance through policy implementation training 
  • Keep Business Heads informed on Compliance matters which may pose financial or reputational risks to the business
  • Manage the delivery of Monthly and Quarterly Compliance reports and submit reports to the in-country Head of Compliance, Retail Director, Head of CIB, Head of BB on areas covered, findings and appropriate recommendations for improvement as required so as to assist the business to operate according to various regulatory requirements applicable.
  • Deal appropriately with Compliance issues and escalate issues in an appropriate manner to the relevant persons
  • Report on the level of compliance with internal policies and procedures, applicable laws, regulations and rules impacting the business.
  • Complete and submit accurate & timeous compliance returns and regulatory and reports (monthly, quarterly, yearly) to the Management, HOC and heads of business
  • Produce quality reports with issues identified with supportive business focused recommendations, and submit to senior management, HOC and  Head of CIB, Retail & BB
  • Develop Ethics Risk Management (ERM) Strategy based on the risk profile and localize the Bank strategy to accommodate to suit our environment.
  • Review and communicate the ABB Ethics Risk Profile to relevant governance committee and continue sensitizing all critical stakeholders to ensure their teams comply with the Code of Ethics.
  • Education and Experience Required

    Essential:

  • Degree in Commerce or Law with 4-5 years’ experience in Law, Auditing, Risk Management or Compliance
  • Preferred

  • Certificate in Compliance Management
  • Legal experience in a financial services environment
  • Membership with the Compliance Institute of South Africa or other similar Professional Body
