Are you a hands-on problem solver who thrives on diagnosing complex issues and driving real-world product improvements? IPA is looking for a Product Engineer – Sustaining Engineering to join our team and support the performance, reliability, and evolution of our hardware-based products. This is a high-impact role that bridges Engineering, Customer Support, Quality, and Operations to ensure fielded products perform at their best every day.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and resolve high-impact product issues escalated from the field, support, and operations teams.
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement long-term, design-driven corrective actions.
  • Work cross-functionally to improve serviceability, reliability, and overall product quality.
  • Support hardware and firmware validation, testing, and design updates.
  • Travel as needed to support critical field escalations and product troubleshooting.
  • Maintain product documentation, including test procedures, technical reports, and design changes.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or similar) OR an associate degree with 7+ years of technical support or field service experience OR 10+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in electromechanical troubleshooting in lieu of a degree.
  • 3+ years in product or sustaining engineering, ideally supporting hardware-based systems.
  • Deep experience diagnosing complex issues across machinery, firmware-enabled hardware, and supporting software environments.
  • Proficient with tools such as Salesforce, Jira, and diagnostic platforms; able to navigate schematics, logs, and technical documentation confidently.
  • Strong communicator with excellent documentation and customer service skills; able to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Self-starter with critical thinking skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Hands-on and inventive comfortable prototyping, debugging circuits, refining CAD models, and 3D printing functional components.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks or AutoCAD) and a working knowledge of embedded system behavior.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% for field support or validation work.

You’ll Excel If You:

  • Own problems from start to finish and don’t stop until the root cause is resolved.
  • Are energized by cross-functional collaboration and aligning diverse teams toward a common goal.
  • Think like a systems engineer—understanding how mechanical, electrical, and software elements work together.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently, even when solving issues under pressure.
  • Constantly look for ways to improve product quality, serviceability, and long-term customer satisfaction.
