Transportation Manager – LTL/Customer Direct TL, 1st Shift (Plant 54, Dalton, Ga)

Position Overview

Shaw Industries is seeking a Transportation Manager - LTL/Customer Direct 1st shift. Primary responsibilities include transportation procurement, carrier management, and carrier compliance. This position will translate customers’ transportation requirements into a carrier sourcing strategy, including carrier identification, development of RFPs, rate negotiations, and carrier contracting. Provide continuous improvement by ensuring high service levels and driving costs down through analytics, process streamlining and ongoing new-carrier identification and aggressive rate negotiations. Study and understand transport market rates, capacity trends and cost pressures.

Responsibilities: 

Establish and grow long lasting, sustainable relationships with Truckload (TL) and Less than Truckload (LTL) carriers as well as 3PL Service Providers.  

Ensure goals are aligned to provide best options to Shaw Industries. 

Responsible for purchasing transportation service for both LTL and Customer Truckloads on a routine basis. 

Coordinate carrier meetings and rate negotiations with senior level executives from leading transportation providers to minimize cost and maximize service throughout Shaw’s network. 

Understand and provide leadership with Shaw’s TL/LTL environment and contract/rate application.  .

Manage relationship with SMC3 and utilize CzarLite rating tools to evaluate cost impact.

Understand NMFC rating and ensure Shaw products are rated at the appropriate freight class.

Analyze historical shipment data to identify customer specific cost saving opportunities and develop strategies to achieve cost reductions while maintaining high levels of service for existing customers, working closely with operations and Sales. 

Conduct analysis of competitors’ offerings and strategies and maintain awareness of the competitive environment. 

Onboard new carriers initiate contracting to ensure they comply with Shaw’s safety, insurance and financial standards. 

Monitor carrier performance to ensure compliance to Shaw’s service standards in regard to on time pickup and delivery, communication, and acceptance of loads. 

Work with the LTL/TL Carriers (Brokers) to identify areas of disruption and create action plans to improve the process.   

Create and publish quarterly customer truckload/rail rates for the entire US within Shawonline.com  

Maintain rate tables and contracts for both LTL and Broker Carriers. 

Collaborate and communicate with functional counterparts and departments regarding the effects of transportation including analysis and/or information surrounding the Transportation Industry.   

Qualifications

4 Year Degree and 1+ years management experience  

TL and LTL experience preferred 

Experience with transportation management systems a plus 

Excel spreadsheet creation and manipulation 

Demonstrated analytical skills and making recommendations from the analysis 

Working knowledge of transportation licensing and permitting
