Job Overview
The Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing a range of tax returns, including individual, partnership, trust, and company returns, as well as BAS and IAS lodgments. The role includes assisting with CGT and FBT calculations, tax planning strategies, and client software support, particularly with Xero. It involves liaising with the ATO, maintaining accurate client records, identifying relevant accounting and tax advice, and ensuring all work is completed accurately, on time, and within budgeted hours. The position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and a commitment to high-quality service and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Follow up with clients regarding queries
  • Prepare individual income tax returns
  • Prepare partnership and trust tax returns
  • Prepare company tax returns
  • Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS)
  • Assist with Xero reconciliations, payroll queries, and software-related matters
  • Prepare Capital Gains Tax (CGT) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) calculations
  • Assist in identifying tax minimization strategies and planning opportunities
  • Liaise with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on client matters
  • Identify and escalate accounting and tax advice to be communicated via the manager
  • Meet workflow and deadline requirements
  • Maintain and update client records and files
  • Participate in training and development activities as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Meet productivity expectations and complete tasks within budgeted hours
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Deliver accurate and high-quality work
  • Demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance
  • Escalate issues and risks appropriately

Qualifications

  • Should be a graduate of Finance/Accounting or any business-related course
  • CPA or studying towards CPA is preferred, but is not required
  • Complete knowledge of Client accounts and businesses
  • At least 1-3 years of Australian Accounting experience (GST, Tax, and Depreciation)
  • At least 1-3 years of AU accounting experience
  • Accounting background; able to understand the language of our interactions with the accounts
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Advanced Knowledge with accounting tools such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, BankLink and other applications that customers use
  • Ability to learn new systems and tools as needed
  • Works within the Client’s quality guidelines
  • Ensures the quality of work being delivered without being supervised
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Works within the allotted budget hours for jobs assigned
  • Ensures all deliverables are fulfilled on time
