POSITION TITLE: Junior Mechanical Engineer
LOCATION: Ottawa
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Secret
REPORTS TO: Supervisor, Facilities Engineering

NATURE AND SCOPE: 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Facilities Engineering Systems, this position is responsible for the provision of engineering services, under the direction of the Supervisor or Supervising Engineer, including design and technical support for various mechanical systems including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; bulk fuel storage and distribution systems, water and wastewater collection, storage, and distribution systems; power generation systems, buildings and structures, and building automation for the North Warning System (NWS) Project. 

 

WHAT YOU DO:

  • Performs design services for assigned equipment during conception, acquisition, in-service, and disposal phases of the life cycle. 
  • Produces and reviews unsatisfactory condition reports and business case documents to identify design requirements. 
  • Researches and identifies approaches and solutions for design requirements. 
  • Generates preliminary and final design packages, including technical specifications, drawings, cost estimates, regulatory certifications in conjunction with subject matter experts as applicable, life cycle stock levels and maintenance plan recommendations, training plan requirements, draft systems documentation, and change control documents. 
  • Performs peer reviews for design packages as an engineering team member. 


WHO YOU ARE

 

EDUCATION:   

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. 

  

EXPERIENCE: 

  • Requires a minimum of one (1) year engineering design experience, two (2) completed co-op engineering work terms, or equivalent. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, COMPETENCIES: 

  • Requires knowledge of facility and building mechanical systems, power generations systems, and building control/automation systems. 
  • Conventional knowledge of design principles and technical document development. 
  • Well organized, solid written and verbal communications, full working knowledge of MS Office Software applications, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. 
  • Excellent oral/written communications with the ability to present and explain technical information to both life cycle and engineering teams. 
  • Excellent teamwork skills, and the ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships.  

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer designation.
