Summary of Job Duties:
The Director of the 12th Street Health and Wellness Center will provide strategic and administrative leadership for the student-led, interprofessional 12th Street Health and Wellness Center while also serving as a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist in Ambulatory Care within UAMS Health. This full-time, non-tenure track faculty position in the Division of Academic Affairs offers a unique opportunity to impact student education and community health while contributing to interdisciplinary patient care. The 12th Street Health and Wellness Center develops and implements health and wellness education and services for the residents of neighboring medically underserved communities from within a dedicated community site where, under the supervision of licensed health care professionals, UAMS students provide health and wellness services, including disease and medication management, dental services, health screenings, education, and immunizations for the community. The Clinic Director will collaborate with the 12th Street HWC Medical Director and Nursing Director to further the Center’s mission.

As a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist, the individual will provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care in collaboration with interdisciplinary programs and specialty services. Pharmaceutical care services include but are not limited to assessing patient needs, incorporating age- and disease-specific characteristics into drug therapy and patient education, adjusting care according to patient response, and providing clinical interventions to detect, mitigate, and prevent adverse medication events. The Director reports directly to the Associate Provost for Academics, who works in close collaboration with the supervising pharmacy manager to align position goals and responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency and/or at least three (3) years of experience working as a clinical pharmacy specialist with direct patient care responsibility.
  • Certification as a licensed Registered Pharmacist by the State of Arkansas, or eligible for licensure
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification is required within 3 years of hiring

Key Responsibilities:

Division of Academic Affairs

  • The Director will support a culture of interprofessional education through the development and coordination of teaching and clinical activities among students and faculty from involved disciplines. The Director works to advance community partnerships, assess community health needs, establish and oversee Center administrative operations, administer Center budget, support institutional policies and best practice standards, coordinate and schedule interprofessional preceptor and student coverage and activities at the center, supervise students in patient care activities as allowed by scope of practice and training requirements, provide didactic and experiential education and serve as advisor/preceptor for students, support faculty development for preceptors, engage in research and scholarly activity and grantsmanship, and provide service to the Division, University, and profession. 

Clinical Pharmacy Services, Ambulatory Care

  • The clinical pharmacy specialist (CPS) for ambulatory care will provide consultative assistance to providers on appropriate therapeutic alternatives, monitor drug therapy, and provide drug information to professional staff upon request in the ambulatory setting. The Ambulatory CPS will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide pharmacotherapy expertise to a broad patient population, including direct patient care under collaborative practice agreements. The pharmacist will review and interpret medication orders, pertinent lab results, and drug profiles to ensure appropriate drug therapy and that drug interactions are considered. The Ambulatory CPS will precept pharmacy students and residents and contribute to protocol development. Upon request, the Ambulatory CPS may participate in department, hospital, and campus committees and be instrumental in developing and implementing Clinical Pharmacy Services in assigned areas. This position will develop policies and procedures when appropriate. The Ambulatory CPS will become a credentialed clinical pharmacy specialist within 6 months of employment through the UAMS Medical Board Credentialing Committee.

May perform other duties as assigned.
