POSITION SUMMARY

The Hawaii Keiki Dental Hygienist in coordination with the Program Manager for Oral Health (Program Manager) is responsible to implement education and provide services for the prevention of oral disease services. In addition, the Dental Hygienist will implement the dental sealant program and under the supervision of the Program Manager and Dentist provide oral health screening, sealants and additional preventive services to keiki within the school complex area. 

School dental hygiene practice requires the combination of professional clinical dental hygiene practice with a specialized component that promotes the health, well-being, academic achievement, and success of the school-age child.

Work days to include: Monday (8:00 a.m. to 11:30 am)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

Intervention

  • Conduct oral health assessments as required. 
  • Implement Hawaii Keiki Sealant program for children at selected elementary schools within a Complex Area.
  • Provide, under general supervision, preventative services including fluoride varnish and dental sealants to children in the schools with a portable dental set up.
  • Provide oral health education and information to students and staff to assist them to be competent, self-directed consumers of oral health services.
  • Serve as an oral health content resource to Hawaii Keiki nurses.

 Interdisciplinary/Interagency Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with the Core Dental Sealant team (Dentist; Dental Hygiene Program Manager) to provide quality preventive dental health services for designated schools. 
  • Providing mentoring to Dental Hygiene students during their clinical rotations within identified Complex Areas. 

Other

  • Adheres to the American Dental Hygienists’ Association – American Dental Hygienists’ Association – Standards for Clinical Dental Hygiene Practice.
  • Complies with all legal requirements and company policies. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • An associate’s or equivalent degree in dental hygiene.
  • Possession of a current unrestricted license to practice as a Dental Hygienist or Community Service Dental Hygienist in the State of Hawaii. 
  • Current BLS/CPR certification
  • 1 year of experience in community based oral health settings, school dental hygiene, or pediatric dental hygiene practice.
