About the team

Our finance team is responsible for shaping our understanding of how Stripe is performing as a business, as well as what our best opportunities are for continued growth. We’re looking for an experienced financial controller to join our International Accounting team. As the Controller in Mexico you will help us build our technical accounting and financial reporting processes, work with business partners, financial partners, external stakeholders and our world-class engineers. You will help us develop best in class accounting processes and help track our progress within a fast-paced environment that’s growing globally

What you’ll do

Responsibilities

  • Lead Financial Close Processes: Manage the monthly close of US GAAP books and local books, including balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, flux analysis, and reporting deliverables.
  • Statutory Audit Process: Oversee financial statement preparation, technical memos, audit support, and SIPRED, culminating in presentations to the board of directors.
  • Technical Expertise: Maintain fluency with US GAAP and local accounting rules, producing necessary technical accounting memos.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner effectively with Tax, Transfer Pricing, Treasury, Corporate Accounting, and Legal teams on diverse projects.
  • Outsourcing Management: Carefully supervise finance outsourcing partners tasked with day-to-day bookkeeping, payroll management, accounts payable, and tax compliance.
  • Process Efficiency: Enhance existing processes through simplification and automation to drive efficiencies.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed on changes in accounting and tax regulations in Mexico.
  • Tax Review: Oversee the review of direct and indirect tax returns.

Who you are

Minimum requirements

  • Experience: 8+ years in accounting, preferably trained in audit (Big 4 preferred) and industry experience.
  • Systems Proficiency: Excellent knowledge of accounting systems (Oracle or equivalent).
  • Audit Knowledge: Experience with large audits (central and local teams) and SIPRED filings.
  • Accounting Expertise: Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and Mexican Financial Reporting Standards (NIF).
  • Project Management: Demonstrated success in managing cross-functional initiatives.
  • Communication Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication in English and Spanish.
  • Adaptability: Flexible with changing requirements in a fast-paced, growing environment.
  • Certification: Contador Público Certificado or recognized accounting qualification (e.g., CA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Problem Solver: Strong passion for solving complex challenges.

Preferred qualifications

  • Background: Knowledge of or experience in the Mexican payments, fin-tech, or financial services industries.
  • Tech Experience: Accounting experience in a fast-growing tech environment.
  • Technical Skills: Hubble/SQL experience beneficial.
