Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Mid to Senor level Transportation / Roadway Engineer to join our Orlando office.  As part of the Transportation Group, the Roadway Engineer will have the opportunity to be the lead design engineer on various transportation projects in the Central Florida area including arterial and interstate resurfacing, reconstruction, safety improvements, and expressway projects. Qualified candidates will have experience in all aspects of roadway design and plans production processes and must be highly proficient in 3D modeling using Microstation Open Road Designer. We are looking for an individual with strong written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to assist with the leading of projects and teams including providing technical guidance to junior engineers. This individual must be energetic, self-directed, and success focused.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering design and computations in accordance with FDOT, AASHTO, and local government publications 
  • Develop detailed roadway 3D models to be used for design and construction using Bentley OpenRoads
  • Prepare accurate construction drawings and exhibits, using Microstation, meeting FDOT or client CADD standards
  • Write clear, concise, and accurate technical and non-technical reports, correspondence, memorandums, and specifications 
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, invoices, and proposals 
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with a multi-disciplinary team and clients
  • Work under deadlines and self-manage several concurrent assignments
  • Perform field observations in support of construction and data collection as needed  
  • Attend client meetings 
  • Assist project manager with task associated with plans preparation, proposal development, and client coordination

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration or the ability to receive via reciprocity with in 6 months of start date: required
  • 8+ years of related experience in highway / roadway engineering design; required
  • FDOT experience and familiarity is a strong plus
  • Microstation OpenRoads design experience: required
  • Experience with 3D modeling is a strong plus
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) 
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions:

Occasional field work is required along with meeting attendance at client office locations, job sites or networking events. 

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
