What You Will Do

Pratt & Whitney Hot Section Engineering is seeking a talented and motivated structures engineer to join the Operational Commercial Engines (OCE) structures team, with responsibility for the durability and structural integrity of hot section engine components. This position offers opportunities to learn rotor/shaft/airfoil/static structures tasks across most of Pratt’s successful commercial and dual-used engine programs. Opportunities to travel to domestic & international customer site are available to allow firsthand understanding. OCE team offers unique environment to work with engine hardware and using real time engine operational data. The candidate will have the advantage to correlate analytical analysis with service experience and provide physics-based explanation/solution to address issues. Key Responsibilities:

  • The Structures engineer will utilize state of the art analytical methods to validate the structural integrity of Hot Section hardware (blades, vanes, rotors, shaft, combustors, major static cases).
  • The engineer will be part of an integrated product team with responsibilities for executing FEMs, performing lifing analyses, and writing technical reports. Detailed assessments include calculation of stress, strength, LCF / TMF / HCF lifing analyses, and damage tolerance. 
  • As a key IPT member, the analyst will be expected to communicate their results and interface with supporting groups across the enterprise.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 2 years of experience in engineering with a bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams
  • Experience including analytical methods (FEA), hand calculations, and spreadsheet methods
  • Experience analyzing strength, stress, deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance
  • Analytical, problem solving and trending skills
  • Proficiency with ANSYS APDL and / or Workbench
  • Knowledge of LCF, TMF, HCF & FM failure modes
  • Familiarity with P&W Structures tools and procedures
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, time management and organizational skills

Hot Section Engineering (HSE)

Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design, development, technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases, combustors, turbines (vanes, blades, rotors and cases), augmenters (military), nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military, commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units.

Technical disciplines in HSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Durability and Product Definition.

What is my role type?

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 66,000 USD - 130,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
