At The Salvation Army, we believe in walking alongside people as they heal, grow, and rediscover hope. Our Geelong Withdrawal Unit is currently seeking a dedicated AOD Support Worker to provide meaningful, person-centred care.

Reporting to the AOD Program Manager, this is a permanent part-time position, 26.6 hours per week, based in Corio, VIC.

Compensation is in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 4.


About the Role

As the AOD Support Worker, you will support clients of the Geelong Withdrawal Unit through the process of withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs as well as support and work in partnership with nursing staff to offer the activities and
to adhere to the timetables of the withdrawal unit programme.

You Will Successfully

  • Build empowering, respectful relationships with clients that support their self-determination and recovery goals
  • Partner with clinical staff to deliver daily program activities and ensure safe, consistent care
  • Provide psycho-social support and guidance, ensuring clients are informed, inducted, and engaged throughout their stay
  • Monitor client well-being, report observations, and contribute meaningfully to handover and team communications
  • Accurately maintain confidential client records, adhere to safety protocols, and help identify service improvements

What You Will Bring

  • A Certificate IV in AOD or Diploma in Community Welfare (including CHCAOD competencies)
  • Experience supporting individuals with AOD or mental health challenges
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and the impacts of addiction
  • Confidence in navigating high-risk situations and supporting clients with complex needs
  • A compassionate heart, professional boundaries, and a commitment to The Salvation Army’s mission and values
  • Valid VIC Working with Children Check
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Victorian Driver’s Licence
