Job Description
The Associate Underwriter plays a key role in supporting the underwriting process for large group insurance products. This entry-level position is designed to provide comprehensive training and hands-on experience in group underwriting, with a focus on developing the skills necessary to evaluate risk, determine pricing, and support business growth. The Associate Underwriter will be responsible for managing and underwriting a medium-sized group book of business, ensuring alignment with company revenue, margin, and membership objectives. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to learning and professional development within a collaborative team environment.What You’ll Do
Manage a Book of Business with up to 75,000 members and representing up to $225,000,000 in premium or premium equivalent under the guidance of an assigned experienced underwriting consultant or above.
Meet or exceed Business Segment revenue, margin, membership, and persistency goals.
Has the authority to make decisions/recommendations within the scope of authority stipulated by Underwriting Management and departmental policies.
Evaluate underwriting risk and determine premium rates for fully insured contracts and recommend funding rates for Administrative Services Only (ASO) contracts.
Proactively make recommendations regarding benefit plan design to internal customers.
Observe final rate negotiations and presentations with clients.
What You Bring
Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required)
0-2 years of experience in related field.
In lieu of degree, 3+ years of experience in related field.

Eagerness to learn underwriting principles, guidelines, and industry regulations.
Resourceful in identifying issues and proposing effective solutions.
The ability to work to a deadline and manage competing priorities.
Ability to work independently and with a team.

Experience with Blue Quote, Facets, and Salesforce
