Focus: Building and securing the foundational layer of the cloud infrastructure, including the GitLab infrastructure utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain secure networking infrastructure (VPCs, firewalls, interconnect) following zero-trust principles.
  • Manage core GCP services like IAM, resource hierarchy, and organizational policies for secure and compliant resource access.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Terraform and GitOps, ensuring adherence to security and compliance standards.
  • Harden foundational infrastructure components against security threats and implement automated security monitoring and alerting.
  • Collaborate with security teams to integrate security best practices and tooling into the foundation layer.
  • Assist in the administration and maintenance of the self-hosted GitLab infrastructure, including server maintenance, upgrades, and security hardening, using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Implement monitoring and alerting for the GitLab infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Contribute to the automation of GitLab administration tasks, such as user management, repository creation, and backup/restore procedures.
Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of Terraform, including writing, testing, and managing Terraform modules for provisioning and configuring infrastructure resources.
  • Experience with Terraform state management, including remote state storage and locking.
  • Ability to manage and troubleshoot infrastructure solely through Terraform and other command-line tools (no console access).
  • Strong understanding of core software design principles and practices, including modularity, reusability, and testability.
  • Experience with GitOps principles and workflows, including using Git for infrastructure as code and managing changes through pull requests and code reviews.
  • Deep understanding of GCP networking, security, and identity management services.
  • Strong understanding of security hardening techniques and best practices for cloud infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with security monitoring and incident response procedures.
  • Basic understanding of GitLab administration and configuration.
  • Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and their integration with GitOps workflows.
  • Basic understanding of zero-trust concepts and their implementation in GCP, including IAM, VPC Service Controls, and network security.

Required Certifications for New Hires:

  • Google Cloud Certified Associate Cloud Engineer: This is essential for all new hires to ensure they have a solid understanding of GCP core services and basic security principles.
  • HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate 003
