What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Serve as a key resource for encouraging, identifying and documenting Scout Motors’ inventions and innovations.
  • Build relationships with the Engineering, Product, Design, Growth and Strategy Teams, and provide training, guidance and encouragement, to facilitate the development of Scout Motors’ patent and trade secret portfolios, including conducting invention mining sessions and participating in the product review process.
  • Conduct patentability and landscape searches and analyses to support patent filing strategy and process.
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate searches, prepare analyses, and formulate informal opinions on patent clearance/non-infringement.
  • Monitor competitive intellectual property on an ongoing basis.
  • Facilitate and monitor patent application preparation and prosecution.
  • Assist with maintaining Scout Motors’ patent database, including adding tags/keywords to disclosures and patent filings to help with generating relevant reports for business leaders.

 

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based remotely within the United States. This role is not eligible for remote work in New York City.
  • The responsibilities of this role require attendance in office with in-person meetings and events occasionally.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science / engineering, automotive technology, or related field, advanced degree preferred.
  • Admitted to practice and in good standing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in patent practice, automotive industry preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability, including managing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely and build relationships with domestic and international business and technical colleagues.
  • Ability to manage uncertainty and novelty and to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $120,000.00 - $145,000.00 

Internal leveling code: IC9
