Job description

Utilities One is seeking an experienced and driven Outside Plant (OSP) Engineering Manager to lead, develop, and enhance our fiber engineering team. This pivotal role is responsible for managing both onshore and offshore engineering teams, overseeing strategic partnerships, and ensuring top-quality fiber network designs.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, manage, mentor, and grow the onshore OSP engineering team, providing ongoing training and professional development;
  • Coordinate closely with offshore engineering teams to maintain seamless workflow and quality standards;
  • Act as the primary client interface, ensuring clear, effective communication and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction;
  • Develop and execute a strategic plan for transitioning from outsourced partnerships to internal self-performance engineering capabilities;
  • Oversee and manage vendor relationships, ensuring quality deliverables, timelines, and project budgets are consistently met;
  • Guide and supervise engineering activities, ensuring fiber engineering designs meet or exceed industry standards and client expectations;
  • Implement best practices for project management, quality assurance, and design accuracy within fiber optic network deployments;
  • Utilize expert judgment and comprehensive industry knowledge to resolve complex engineering challenges efficiently and effectively.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive telecommunications engineering experience, specifically focused on fiber optic network design;
  • At least 3 years in engineering management or supervisory roles, demonstrating successful team-building and leadership;
  • Proven proficiency with industry-standard tools, including IQGeo, ARAMIS, ArcGIS, QGIS, and AutoCAD;
  • Solid understanding of fiber optic network construction methodologies, including aerial, buried, underground, and associated permitting requirements;
  • Strong grasp of telecom industry standards, regulatory compliance, and engineering best practices including a full grasp of NESC compliance;
  • Exceptional organizational, multitasking, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple concurrent projects and client demands;
  • Advanced knowledge of OSP concepts, network architecture diversity, and permitting and compliance standards and codes;
  • Flexibility for minimal travel (<10%) to support project initiatives and client interactions.
