Description

Key Objective:

  • Successful processing Molds and master patterns from gel coated plug or master pattern to fully trimmed laminated mold ready for framing.
  • Maintain schedule and quality.

 

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proficient at consolidating resins, fiberglass, and core materials on molds utilizing contact rollers, squeegees, spray guns, and paint brushes/rollers.
  • Properly identify lamination/composite materials
  • Properly catalyze and/or mix two-component resins, bonding putties, and adhesives
  • Pattern, cut and fit coring and lamination reinforcements.
  • Conduct daily tests for equipment calibration and operation. Including: Resin/Gel to Catalyst Ratio Test, Chopper Gun Calibration, Recognizing good catalyst dispersion, Setting the Fan Pattern on a Resin/Chopper Gun
  • Set up, operate, and shut down guns and pumps. Clean guns.
  • Record material date and batch numbers
  • Properly laminate tabs for attaching steel bracing.
  • Identify and repair air voids in laminates.
  • Ensure all operations are performed safely.
  • Maintain all areas and equipment clean neat and organized, always.
  • Conduct daily routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Store all materials safely at the end of the day.
  • Train Technician I level employees
  • Conduct operations using TDC mold fabrication approved processes (ISPC/OPL)

 

Proficiencies:

  • Composite fabrication
  • Composite equipment operation and maintenance
  • Conduct daily tests for equipment calibration and operation.
  • Composite cutting and grinding equipment and procedures.
  • Resin systems
  • Full ability to laminate molds using wet layup and infusion processes.
  • Full ability in trimming hulls, decks, medium parts, stringer grids and small part molds
  • Full understanding of cutting, grinding, routing, sanding & drilling tools used in the Grinding Booth

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safety: provides for continuous improvement and zero recordable safety environment.
  • Quality: responsible for Adherence of procedures and processes.
  • Delivery: responsible for maintaining schedule to meet agreed upon TDC requirements.
  • Cost: Maintains departmental budget in labor and materials.

 

 

Other similar duties may be assigned

  • Understands environmental compliance as it relates to material used in their area:  chemical handling, usage, labeling, storage, and disposal.
  • Supports continuous improvement utilizing Safety system, Kaizen, CAR system, and other problem-solving techniques.
  • Responsible for the proper maintenance of all equipment used in their area and workplace organization using the 5S methodology.
  • Identifies problems (i.e., material shortages, employee relations issues, etc.) within their scope and communicates to the group leader when additional assistance is needed.

Housekeeping:

  • Performs housekeeping and other job-related duties assigned by supervisor.
  • Frequently handles and ensures that cleanliness and orderliness standards are met throughout the plant.  This means doing the work him/herself whenever necessary.
  • Promote department cleanliness. Keep all shop areas clean, parts put away in an orderly fashion.
  • Promote tool organization and workstation organization.

General knowledge and understanding of required power tools.

Must be able to understand and execute top quality.

Must be able to pass the strength/stress test and drug/alcohol screening contingent to the hiring process

Job requires standing and working in and around boats/molds throughout the entire day

Must work efficiently and in the safest manner possible, following all safety regulations at all time

 

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills:  

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Mathematical Skills:  

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

 

Reasoning Ability: 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
