Description

The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) is seeking to add an experienced Director of Innovation Infrastructure and Insights to its team.

The Office of Innovation, Clinical Education, and Public Health (ICEPH) at the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) is committed to enhancing the future-readiness of oral health clinical education and improving public health outcomes by championing innovative approaches across providers and institutions. To advance this mission, ICEPH is establishing a new role to lead the development and implementation of a data infrastructure that supports strategic insights and informed decision-making. This position will oversee the creation and management of a data platform that acts as a centralized hub and benchmarking tool, ensuring data quality, privacy, and compliance. The Director of Innovation Infrastructure and Insights will lead the design and execution of data systems while championing a culture of evidence-based decision-making and continuous innovation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Guide and execute a comprehensive data infrastructure strategy, including a centralized data hub, benchmarking tools, and infrastructure supporting oral health clinical education and public health analytics.
  • Lead data infrastructure efforts to collect, integrate, and analyze data from a variety of external and internal sources (e.g., CODA, NIH, CDC), third-party tools, market research, and member projects.
  • Collaborate with the ICEPH team in analyzing and validating data.
  • Design dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the ADEA IT team to ensure data systems and infrastructure are optimized for efficient storage, access, and analysis.
  • Guide the adoption of AI and automation tools to streamline data collection, processing, and insight generation.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, data privacy regulations, and governance standards for all data usage and reporting.
  • Oversee data quality management, security, documentation, and governance frameworks.
  • Develop data documentation for the data projects and any other necessary data policies and work closely with various team members and collaborators to implement them.
  • Communicate analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences through reports, presentations, and visualizations.
  • Foster a culture of data literacy, transparency, innovation and continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Report to the Chief of ICEPH and work closely with Director of Public Health Research and Policy.
  • Collaborate with the Chief of ICEPH on strategic planning, reporting, and special projects.
  • Perform additional tasks assigned.

Desired First-Year Outcomes

  • Develop a strategic plan to create and manage a data platform that acts as a centralized hub and benchmarking tool, ensuring data quality, privacy, and compliance, which should include a concrete timeline and progress milestones for data pool, catalog and curated datasets
  • Generate analytics products (dashboards, visualizations, reports) aligned to ICEPH’s public health and clinical education priorities.
  • Begin implementing foundational AI tools and algorithms to support automated data collection, normalization, and trend analysis.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field required. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in database management, data engineering, analytics, and/or data architecture (6 years with a master’s degree).
  • Experience developing enterprise-wide data systems, including dashboards, benchmarking tools, and data hubs.
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Proven ability to work with large, complex datasets using statistical techniques and machine learning (preferred).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, and C++; experience with R preferred.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering practices, including ETL, data warehousing, and data modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms and processing tools such as Snowflake, Redshift, Spark, Hive, and BigQuery.
  • Familiarity with IT security systems such as IDP, SSO, SAML, and private networks.
  • Knowledge of statistical and predictive analytics methods; machine learning experience including but not limited to Predictive Analytics is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing analytics strategies in healthcare and oral health data in an institutional environment is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex analytics into meaningful insights for diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, and collaborative, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively across diverse teams
  • Ability to work at ADEA’s Washington, DC office on a hybrid schedule and as needed. The current hybrid schedule is onsite on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and  work from home on Mondays and Fridays.

This position's salary range is $106,000 to $125,000. In addition to a rewarding and purposeful mission, ADEA offers you a collaborative team environment with competitive salary and excellent benefits, including health, vision, dental and life insurance, wellness benefits, a 35-hour work week, generous paid leave and a 403(b) retirement plan with 10% employer contribution.
