Job description

Job Description:

Under direction of the Associate Director of Communications, the Public Relations will help to ensure active and engaged conversations are happening with external communities for TCS Education System. They will oversee proactive engagement with media for our community of brands, partnering with agency partners and our university and System leadership to plan, organize, and oversee all outreach. They will also play a pivotal role in expanding external partnerships for our community, proactively look for speaking engagement opportunities, help develop talking points and key messaging for TCS Education System and assist with all communications efforts—for both internal and external.

This individual will also assist with the development of internal communications materials, Board of Trustees materials, thought leadership content, social media content, and more as needed. Their efforts will serve as a bridge, bringing the TCS brand to life with rich, meaningful public relations strategies that maximize exposure and credibility. This position will work collaboratively across the marketing department and will have some exposure to executive leadership as well.

The ideal candidate will understand how marketing, strategic communications, and public relations can work together for greater impact. They will have exceptional communications skills and be a proactive collaborator, able to jump in to work alongside team members on projects and tasks of all levels that will solve communications challenges for our community. They will be competent and driven, adept at decision-making and problem-solving, and will have a positive attitude. They will possess initiative and good judgment and will be conscientious and trustworthy. A passion for education is a must.

Position Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the public relations expert internally—as it relates to strategic communications, media relations, community partnerships, and more.
  • Work as the main liaison for leadership and media partners in the organization and execution of public relations campaigns.
  • Support the development of internal media lists and media relationships for continued engagement across our brands.
  • Assist with serving as a resource for our external Public Relations partner on sourcing quotes, arranging interviews, developing materials for press, etc.
  • Oversee the development and execution of internal communications strategies for TCS’ community of colleges and universities—students, staff, faculty, and leadership.
  • Assist in the development of Board of Trustee materials.
  • Support leadership to write and edit thought leadership blog posts, social media posts, email communications, newsletters, executive presentations, and other communications materials for a variety of channels.
  • Support the management of TCS’ social media presence to grow the brand through Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other strategically relevant online properties.
  • Act as an embedded reporter at organization conferences and events to help capture photography and conduct interviews to be used in both external and internal communications.
  • Assist with updating website properties.
  • May produce content for institutional publications and newsletters as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Position Requirements:

  • Media Relations and Public Relations experience a plus.

Position Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a related role
  • Solid background in writing content for different audiences and platforms
  • Proven communication skills, and abilities in creative writing or corporate communications
  • Proficient with content management programs a plus.
  • Driven, focused, and efficient
  • Flexible, versatile, learner; open to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously within compressed timeframes
  • Detail-oriented and able to ensure projects are meeting milestones and expectations with little supervision
  • Skilled communicator with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills

Compensation & Benefits

This opportunity is budgeted at $75,000 - 85,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
