Location: U.S.-based remote (see location requirements below)

Who you are:

The Director of Institutional Relations will lead a high-performing team focused on strengthening institutional partnerships and expanding student participation in CIEE study abroad and custom programs. The role will oversee a team of Institutional Relations Managers to drive growth across a portfolio of institutions through strategic leadership, institutional engagement, and cross-organization collaboration. The ideal candidate has a sales mindset, is a strategic thinker, a relationship-builder, and experienced team leader.
 

What you’ll do:

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of Institutional Relations Managers based in various locations, fostering a positive, collaborative, and growth-oriented team culture.
  • Provide ongoing training and coaching in consultative sales, enrollment strategy, and relationship management.
  • Maintain accountability for team performance, including enrollment and revenue goals and other key performance indicators (KPIs).

Institutional Engagement & Enrollment Growth

  • Increase student participation across all CIEE college programs (semester, short-term, internships, and custom) through strategic initiatives, relationship-building, and consultative outreach.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with study abroad offices, academic departments, faculty, and other key stakeholders at top institutions.
  • Oversee student-facing engagement strategies & initiatives for the portfolio of institutions such as campus ambassador, peer-to-peer outreach, campus events, and advising. 

Strategic Planning & Performance Management

  • Monitor and analyze team performance using CRM (Salesforce) and data analytics tools to track engagement, identify trends, and guide strategy.
  • Adapt and refine strategies as needed to meet evolving goals and institutional needs.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Representation

  • Serve as a liaison between the Institutional Relations team and departments such as Global Operations, Enrollment, Marketing, Academic Affairs, and Finance to ensure coordinated institutional support.
  • Represent CIEE at professional conferences and events including NAFSA, the Forum on Education Abroad, and CIEE’s annual conferences.
  • Support or lead domestic and national site visits, workshops, and campus programming as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent.
  • 6+ years experience in international education, higher education, or sales-related fields, with at least 2-3 years managing staff.
  • Proven track record of growing program participation through relationship-building, consultative outreach, and collaboration
  • Experience working with a variety of institutional stakeholders in higher-ed or similar field
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills
  • Experience manage direct reports
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20-30% domestically and internationally for campus visits and other engagements.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team remotely.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
