Job Overview 

The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer is a highly motivated, personable, flexible, and seasoned IT professional. In conjunction with the Sr. Director of Technical Operations, this position is responsible for providing leadership and direction within the engineering team to ensure world-class performance, availability and uptime for Right Networks’ cloud and hybrid network infrastructure. Right Networks is responsible for delivering the highest levels of customer experience for our customers while at the same time being extremely innovative with technologies and tools that will push our capabilities into the future. 

The Sr. Infrastructure Engineer works in a fast-paced environment driving performance and reliability from the servers, networks, and related utilities and hardware that comprise the cloud infrastructure. The position tackles challenging, unique situations every day and works with other functions and employees within Right Networks as well as our customers. They are looked upon as a subject matter expert, mentor and advocate to fellow team members on making reliable technical decisions around engineering and supporting the complex technology that runs the business critical systems for our customers. 

In general, the Sr. Infrastructure Engineer must have a knack for higher level technology design, architecture, system analysis and troubleshooting. The ability to supervise others, communicate effectively and manage multiple projects is also required. 

 This is a remote based role.

Responsibilities 

  • Maintains, monitors and supports the infrastructure environment 

  • Leads and coordinates multiple cross-functional work initiatives and projects 

  • Diagnoses and resolves complex hardware, software and network connectivity problems 

  • Defines improvements for increased infrastructure reliability and performance 

  • Acts as the technical liaison with other groups providing insight on upcoming implementations and strategies, including validation of ongoing solutions supportability 

  • Leads short and long term project efforts within team and other departments 

  • Works with project teams to understand business requirements, provides feedback and recommendations on technical solutions 

  • Coordinates development activities with other groups 

  • Monitors ticketing queue to ensure service requests and incidents are responded to in a timely manner 

  • Works across teams to ensure infrastructure maintenance and upgrades are implemented with minimal impact to production operation 

  • Develops plans to manage the frequency of support package/patch application 

  • Monitors system operating capacity (e.g. disk space, storage & cpu utilization) 

  • Forecasts utilization patterns and identifies needed modifications and upgrades 

  • Server builds 

  • Installs, configures and maintains infrastructure hardware & software components 

  • Collects and maintains tracking & configuration documentation 

  • Performs capacity workload modeling and availability analysis for systems and network infrastructure 

  • Recommends enhancements for improved systems & network availability, reliability and performance 

  • Implements infrastructure changes following Change Management policies 

  • Coordinates problem resolution across functional areas and provides subject matter expertise support for diagnosing and resolving problems 

  • Implements software or hardware changes to rectify problems or address improvement opportunities 

  • Reports security issues, gathers required information & participates in security investigations 

  • Ensures information security requirements are adhered to 

  • Implements or coordinates remediation required by audits/assessments and document exceptions as necessary 

  • Leads design, implementation, and execution of backup and disaster recovery planning 

  • Ensures technical documentation is developed and maintained 

  • Leads evaluation of future technologies and makes recommendations for software and hardware upgrades 

  • Works with team and vendors to architect new solutions 

  • Participates in development of technology roadmap 

  • Provides technical guidance, coaching & mentoring to team members and other departments 

  • Provides input to performance management of team members 

  • Works afterhours during maintenance windows 

  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Requirements  

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical institute degree preferred 

  • 5 or more years of relevant experience deploying and or administering infrastructure solutions 

  • Requires strong knowledge and experience with multiple infrastructure solutions 

  • Citrix XenApp expertise (Citrix certification preferred) 

  • Virtualization experience (VMware, Hyper-V) 

  • Specialist in Windows support (Microsoft certification preferred) 

  • Scripting/automation via PowerShell, VBscript, AutoIT 

  • SAN storage infrastructure experience (Netapp preferred) 

  • Firewalls, switches, network load balancers (Netscaler preferred) 

  • Intrusion detection, anti-virus and vulnerability scanning 

  • Microsoft Clustering experience 

  •  Microsoft SQL experience (installation, configuration, troubleshooting) 

  • Microsoft Exchange experience (installation, configuration, troubleshooting) 

  • Resolve escalated system and network support issues 

  • Define problem management processes for service outages 

  • Bring system changes into Production and performing implementations 

  • Implementing high-risk changes, e.g. application patches, software upgrades 

  • Troubleshoot root causes of problems through liaisons with external vendors and internal teams 

  • Experience with Windows 20xx Server, Active Directory, GPO / Send mail / SMTP 

  • Backup experience (Veeam preferred) 

  • Knowledge of ITIL and industry best practices 

  • Strong oral and written communications
