Job Summary
A Research Coordinator will support project conducted by the Healthcare Ethics & Equity Team. The role of the research coordinator is to support grant writing, participant recruitment, data collection, data analysis, scholarly writing, and production of knowledge translation materials. The successful candidate will work within well-defined guidelines and procedures, but exercise judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion. The Research Coordinator will conduct work remotely by email, phone calls, virtual meetings, and Microsoft Teams. Experience in a related field and good communication skills are essential for this position.
Organizational Status
The Research Coordinator will report directly to Dr. Drew Clark, leader of the Healthcare Ethics and Equity Team in the School of Nursing, The University of British Columbia.
Work Performed
The Research Coordinator will work closely with Dr. Clark, research collaborators in other organizations, and other members of the Healthcare Ethics and Equity Team. The Research Coordinator is expected to contribute to the overall success team projects by:
Conducting research work, such as drafting research ethics applications, reviewing literature, recruiting advisory team members and research participants, conducting interviews and focus groups, and administering surveys.
Analyzing and interpreting research data by performing tasks such as compiling, cleaning, and analyzing data.
Contributing to knowledge mobilization by performing tasks such as drafting and revising knowledge translation materials.
Coordinating and liaising with research participants, research collaborators, and advisory team members.
Organizing meetings, providing agendas, taking minutes, and creating workplans.
Overseeing project progress and participating in complex research activities
Scheduling and training staff
Carrying out other duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors or incorrect decisions could compromise the quality of the research, and the collegial relationships with partners and/or participants. In turn, this could result in delays in completing the project, and potentially impact the credibility of the project and its investigators. Inability to exercise sound and sensitive judgement could diminish the project’s (and its team's) ability to attract the support of the scientific community and/or lead to poor public/private sector relationships and partnerships. This work must be completed at a high level of consideration, reflexivity, and professionalism.
Supervision Received
Works under minimum supervision, receiving specific instructions only on unusual problems or on matters which depart significantly from established policy and procedure.
Supervision Given
This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities. The Research Project Coordinator will, however, provide leadership and guidance to other staff and trainees working on the project.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program
Minimum of four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, inclusion, truth and reconciliation, and Indigenous Cultural Safety and Cultural Humility.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree preferred.
Ability to be thorough, accurate, and have a high level of attention to detail.
Understanding of data collection and maintenance.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
Ability to exercise sound judgment.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Training and experience working in public health or a related field.
