Job Summary

The Dentist diagnoses and treats dental conditions, injuries, and irregularities of the oral cavity and related tissues and provides education regarding prevention and oral hygiene.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Administrative Functions

  • Coordinate the preparation of reports and written documentation as required by the department, company, and State and Federal agencies
  • Maintain proper, detailed, and accurate dental records
  • Travel between clinics to work, as needed
  • Be on-call, as scheduled, by the Director of Dental Services
  • Assist Clinic Manager/Director of Dental Services in supervising the dental staff and assuring that clinic is compliant with State and Federal guidelines
  • Meet productivity goals, as set by DAP Health, assist the Clinic Manager, and work with dental staff to accomplish those goals
  • Maintain a professional demeanor with patients, staff, and administration
  • Supervise Dental Assistants
  • Understand the organization’s commitment to provide high quality patient care and promote a patient-centered environment
  • Perform other tasks, as directed by the Director of Dental Services, as needed to meet clinic or organization goals

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat dental conditions to provide optimum care to patients
  • Consult with the patient/parent/guardian and advise them of dental status and required treatment
  • Educate patients regarding oral conditions, provide treatment options, and explain to the patient/parent/guardian the risks, benefits, and alternatives of each option
  • Treat dental conditions for patients of all ages, and if unable to provide a particular service, provide the patient with the appropriate specialty referral (Board certified/qualified Pedodontics are exempted from treating adult patients)
  • Treat soft/hard tissues diseases of the oral cavity, perform surgery on oral tissues, when necessary, render prosthetic treatment, when indicated, and design and place orthodontic appliances for interceptive orthodontics
  • Provide quality care to the patients of DAP Health, within the scope of practice outlined by state and/or federal law  
  • Deliver care in accordance with established standards of care and accepted community standards
Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English, strongly preferred
  • Computer skills involving word processing email and dental management programs such as Media Dent preferable
  • Proficient in preventative and restorative dental treatment procedures
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern dentistry and its application, techniques, procedures, and equipment
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills and qualities

Education and Experience

  • DDS/DMD Degree from an accredited dental school
  • Licensed to practice dentistry in the State of California
  • Current BLS certification obtained through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current DEA License
  • Meet all credentialing and privileging requirements
  • 2 years’ experience or GPR preferable
  • Current BLS certification obtained through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • DEA Certificate
  • Experience working with a non-profit FQHC Dental clinic preferred
  • Experience working with LGBTQ community, homeless, and those with substance use conditions preferred

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • This position is on-site at a DAP Health Clinic
  • This job operates in a clinic setting and requires frequent times of sitting, standing, repetitive motion, and talking
  • Able to lift/move up to 40 pounds, move from place to place, and stand for long periods of time
