Job Summary:
The Development Officer is a key member of Citizens’ Climate’s fundraising team and plays a central role in stewarding mid-level individual donors, supporting fundraising campaigns, and advancing department-wide projects. This position manages a portfolio of committed donors giving $1,000–$9,999 annually, with an emphasis on structured renewal outreach and donor engagement communications.
This is a dynamic, collaborative role ideal for a mid-career development professional who enjoys donor communication, campaign execution, and deploying sustainable fundraising programs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Donor Portfolio Management (75%)
Manage a portfolio of approximately 350 mid-level donors giving $1,000–$9,999 annually.
Execute an annual gift renewal process through personalized outreach, offering a check-in meeting to provide updates on Citizens’ Climate’s work.
Track and document donor interactions and renewal outcomes in Salesforce.
Help identify donors with upgrade potential through qualification efforts.
Support the quarterly distribution of donor impact reports, including occasional content development or coordination assistance.
Campaigns, Events and Materials (15%)
Support the execution of donor solicitation and qualification campaigns.
Assist with donor events and virtual roundtables, including logistics and follow-up.
Collaborate with other development team members and program staff to tell Citizens’ Climate’s success stories through donor-facing communications.
Contribute to the development of donor collateral (e.g. one-pagers, impact reports) and fundraising-related communications (e.g. emails, weekly briefing segments, and blog content).
Donor Services and Internal Support (5%)
Respond to donor inquiries through the main development phone line and inbox.
Assist donors with updates to their giving preferences, contact details, and general questions.
Provide expertise to donors on various forms of giving, including Qualified Charitable Distributions, gifts of stock, cryptocurrency donations, legacy gifts, employee gift matching, and Donor Advised Funds.
Use and maintain data accuracy in systems such as Salesforce, Classy, Double the Donation, WealthEngine, and FreeWill.
Provide project and administrative support during busy campaign periods (e.g., Giving Tuesday, year-end, March campaign).
Grants and Strategic Support (5%)
Provide research or writing support for letters of interest, proposals, and grant reports, as needed.
Support department-wide donor engagement strategies and collaborate on new giving initiatives, as needed.
Required Skills/Experience:
3–5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or donor relations
Excellent verbal communication skills with strong phone presence
Strong writing and content development skills
Working knowledge of charitable giving mechanisms (DAFs, stock gifts, QCDs, etc.)
Working knowledge of fundraising within 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofit structures
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Comfortable working in a collaborative, fully remote team
Experience using a CRM platform (Salesforce preferred) and G Suite
Commitment to the organization’s mission and values
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Experience using Classy, FreeWill, WealthEngine, and Candid
Interest in climate advocacy or policy
Compensation:
Salary Range: $65,0000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Schedule:
This is a flexible, full-time, exempt, and remote position that can be performed from anywhere in the United States. It requires reliable access to the internet and cellular service. Evening and weekend hours may be occasionally necessary when working with volunteers, donors, and staff across multiple time zones. Occasional travel is required, including one week in Washington, D.C.
