The Nurses’ Health Program (NHP) is a voluntary bilingual program for Ontario nurses. It is designed to encourage nurses to seek treatment for substance use and/or mental health disorders that may affect their ability to practice nursing safely. It is a recognized best-in-class approach that focuses on early identification and referral for treatment. The program is modelled on similar ones used by other regulated health professions across the province.

NHP provides an opportunity for Ontario nurses with substance use and/or mental health disorders to receive support to recover and practice safely. It is designed so that eligible participants can continue practicing while following a treatment and monitoring plan.

Location: Remote – Ontario Based

Experience with:

 Disability Case Management (STD/LTD)

As a Case Manager, you will be a key member of our disability management team providing telephonic case coordination and support to participants who utilize our services to assist with specialized mental health and/or substance abuse treatment programs.  This position is full-time hours (40 hours/week – Monday to Friday excluding Statutory Holidays).

Key aspects of this role include:

  • Conducting case intake assessments, contacting the participant, their employer and treatment providers by telephone to explain the program requirements and gather information for assessment purposes
  • Developing and documenting an understanding of the situation and factors supporting as well as inhibiting a successful return to work for the participant
  • Arranging / Coordinating suitable medical assessments, treatment, ongoing testing and monitoring
  • Coordinating and developing suitable and sustainable return to work plans
  • Maintaining regular contact with participants who are in treatment and/or under contract with a focus on reducing time loss durations and enhancing recovery
  • Implementing early intervention strategies for an participant’s quick recovery
  • Attend case management and disability management team meetings

Key requirements:

  • Must be a Registered Nurse or Register Nurse Practitioner; registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Experience in case management related to substance use and/or mental health disorders
  • Disability Management Certification or CDMP or other equivalent designation completed or in progress considered an asset 
  • Strong understanding of medical management, healthcare industry, labour issues, regulatory organizations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Customer-focused attitude, with the ability to understand, anticipate and identify customer needs
  • Strong planning, organizational and multi-tasking skills and are able to work with different priorities and timelines
  • Ability to effectively case manage physical and psychological disability situations 
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite products
  • Able to work in a team, but also equally competent on your own 
  • Nursing experience treating substance use/abuse disorders and mental health disorders is a strong asset
  • Bilingual – French and English an asset
