Retail Banking Services (RBS) Finance acts as a partner to the RBS business and other business units (our customers) to help them succeed with achieving the Bank’s goals and fulfilling their business unit responsibilities. RBS Finance provides financial information and business advice to support our business units to build sustainable shareholder value.


RBS Finance forms part of the Financial Services (FS) support unit, whose vision is to make a difference on the things that matter.

The RBS Finance team operates as a business partner integrated with the management of the product and distribution businesses yet with a one step removed status to promote objectivity and independence of analysis and advice. Major work functions are planning, reporting and decision support to line management to promote operational and financial efficiency, productivity delivery and customer service quality.

The RBS Performance Management team is responsible for providing financial support and advice to the RBS business, with the goal of being a trusted business partner through providing valuable advice that drives business performance.

The RBS Expense Management & Productivity Reporting team sits within the Performance Management team and is responsible for the financial management of expenses for the RBS business, including annual target setting and budgeting, performance reporting, forecasting, finance business partnering as expense subject matter experts, financial control, and driving the cost simplification program.

This role reports directly to the Executive Manager, Expense Management & Productivity Reporting, RBS Financial Services.

The Senior Manager Expense Management & Productivity Reporting (Distribution) is a key partner to the RBS business, providing financial management and cost optimisation strategies to the RBS business and Distribution leadership team.

Some of the key areas you will be providing support and leadership across include:

  • Provide strategic advice to the RBS CFO and Leadership Team on optimal expense allocation/investments and productivity opportunities, with a focus on distribution channels
  • Supporting organisational change, including Pace (Agile), investment spend and cost optimisation initiatives.


The responsibilities of the Senior Manager Expense Management & Productivity Reporting (Distribution) include:

  • Provide strategic advice on managing a cost base of ~$1.9bn per annum (including branch network, lenders, call centre and collections, and wealth & private business), and support workforce management of ~10k FTE;
  • Articulate key business drivers, provide critical insights to drive debate, and deliver value-add analysis across the RBS distribution channel;
  • Support the end to end ownership of RBS expense and productivity management, including strategy and budget setting, performance reporting, forecasting, investment spend, financial control and cost optimisation/productivity reporting;
  • Formulate actionable analysis and insights to drive RBS performance and strategy;
  • Preparing high quality presentations and supporting analysis / insight for senior management (RBS Group Executive, CFO, Retail Leadership Team and the business);
  • Answering ad hoc queries from the RBS CFO and RBS business;
  • Building strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders including RBS Finance Teams, BU & SU Finance teams, and business stakeholders;
  • Lead a team of 3, with a focus on attracting, promoting and rotating talent and an inspiring and nurturing work environment;
  • Drive the annual expense “value attribution” process to allocate expenses to other business units on a customer segmentation basis.
  • Actively drive process improvement, simplification and cross skilling across the RBS Expense Management & Productivity Reporting team;

  • Strong analytical and commercial skills, with demonstrated ability to draw insights from analysis;
  • Strong leadership and team management skills;

  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills and critical thinking skills; and
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple deliverables.
