ABOUT THE POSITION

Avantus is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Manager of Policy & Regulatory Affairs to support the company’s policy advocacy and regulatory strategy at both the federal and state levels. This individual will assist in developing and executing Avantus’ positions before agencies and legislative bodies such as FERC, CAISO, WECC, and various State Public Utilities Commissions, ensuring that emerging policy and market structures support utility-scale solar and storage deployment. 

The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, a collaborative mindset, and direct experience engaging with regulatory and legislative bodies in the energy sector. This role provides a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of policy and business strategy in a high-growth, mission-driven company. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develop a thorough understanding of and continuously monitor for and analyze trends and changes in, policy, regulatory activity, legislation that could impact our business in our key priority states and federal government. 
  • Provide strategic insights to the Vice President of Policy and Regulatory Affairs and members of the Senior Leadership Team explaining legislative and regulatory developments to inform actionable business solutions and strategies.
  • Act as a liaison with key state and federal decision makers to facilitate project approvals.  Help to grow and maintaining relationships with elected officials, and support the development of strategic engagement plans.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Communicates and advocates Avantus priorities to local, state, and federal elected officials and staff.
  • Coordinates government relations strategy with key project development team members.  Assisting from time to time with local outreach to elected officials.
  • Manage trade association memberships and representing Avantus at trade association events, lobby days, events, and conferences.
  • As part of the policy team serve as an internal resource to all Avantus team members, and work collaboratively with other cross-functional teams. 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, law, environmental studies, or related field. 
  • 4–7 years of experience in energy policy, government affairs, regulatory engagement, or related field. 
  • Familiarity with CAISO, WECC, and/or FERC processes and proceedings. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of renewable energy markets, state and federal legislative processes, transmission, interconnection, and energy pricing. 
  • Excellent communication and writing skills; ability to explain complex regulatory issues to a variety of audiences. 
  • Highly organized, analytical, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to problem solving.   
  • Adaptable to change in a fast-moving and innovative environment. 

 NICE TO HAVES

  • JD, MBA, MS in Political Science, Policy, or other advanced degrees preferred.

The base salary range for this full-time position is listed below (plus bonus and benefits). Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in California. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus and benefits.
