Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Nursing Manager of Sexual Wellness, the RN of Sexual Wellness will utilize the nursing process to assess and identify the individual needs of patients through observation of disease symptoms, emotional state, laboratory reports, cultural and socio-economic background and response to a medical regimen and treat in accordance with DAP Health policies, procedures, and protocols. The RN of Sexual Wellness plays a critical role in the patient experience by optimizing clinic/patient flow and working collaboratively with the mobile health team, clinical staff and Community Health personnel to assure a patient-centered environment.

DAP Health offers Free STI testing and treatment, Free Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Free Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) services, and Free HIV and Hep C testing.

Job Status: Full-time, Hourly Non-exempt

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing team.
  • Provides a welcoming and efficient introduction to Sexual Wellness services.
  • Provides backup support for the Indio Sexual Wellness Clinic, covering staff vacations and needed days off.
  • Provides sexual wellness testing in accordance with established policies and practices.
  • Performs point-of-care testing in accordance with established policies and practices.
  • Performs venipuncture.
  • Processes blood to send out to the lab.
  • Conducts brief, but sensitive problem-focused medical interviews including sexual history and questions regarding sexual orientation.
  • Makes determinations as to patient care needs based on chief complaints, symptoms, medical history and/or test results.
  • Records, monitors and coordinates client medication and drug treatment programs.
  • Ensures that HIV-positive patients are linked to care within thirty (30) days or less and that rapid ART is implemented in a timely manner.
  • Educates the patient/family/significant other(s) about measures that promote, maintain and restore health or promote comfort.
  • Establishes effective relationships and serves as an advocate with the patient, their family and significant other(s) to facilitate the development of the care plan unique to the patient's needs.
  • Utilizes evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on the patient's age-specific needs and clinical presentation.
  • Ensures that medical standards and guidelines are implemented and maintained in the mobile van as well as the clinic.
  • Participates in community forums/medical education programs.
  • Maintains Medical record documentation of all services rendered, including examination, treatment, and referrals.
  • Works with the Nursing Manager of Sexual Wellness regarding on-site and mobile nursing policies and procedures.
  • Accesses patient-protected health information as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both internally and externally.
  • Proficient in the utilization of the electronic medical record system as it applies to this position.
  • Knowledge of:
    • HIV/AIDS care and treatment and sensitivity to issues and populations impacted by the disease; HIV specialty preferred.
    • And experience in the care and treatment of diseases associated with HIV/AIDS and sensitivity to issues and populations impacted by the disease.
  • Requires a flexible schedule to include working occasional evenings and weekends.

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in Nursing.
  • Active RN licensure in the State of California.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross accredited BLS certification.
  • Preferred one year of experience in a clinic, physician's office, medical facility, public health department, or similar facility. New grads will be considered.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Experience working:
    • With the LGBTQ community, preferred.
    • With the homeless and low-income community, preferred.
    • With EPIC, preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift 24 pounds.
  • Operates in an office setting at times and requires frequent times of sitting, standing, repetitive motion and talking.
  • Involves contact with patients or patient specimens. Exposure to blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens is required.
