Reports to:  Retail Store Manager and Buyer

 

Classification

Type: part-time, non-exempt position

Schedule:  Approximately 20 hours a week, one weekend day required occasional evenings, events, and holidays.

Minimum starting hourly rate OR Salary: $12.00

 

Scott Family Amazeum Overview

The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum in Northwest Arkansas and recognized as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. We create a fun environment where risk taking, imagining, problem solving, discovery, collaboration, and exploration bring children and adults together to learn and grow.

 

Amazeum Mission: To engage the imagination of children and their families through interactive exhibits, programs, and resources while creating an excitement for lifelong learning and the enrichment of lives.

 

Through experiences with the Amazeum, individuals and the community are engaged in building relationships and developing identities as creative, curious, and innovative shapers for the region. Learning at the Amazeum is an active, playful exploration that inspires curiosity. It is rooted in inquiry-based discovery and involves an element of risk. Hands-on learning opportunities allow guests to exercise critical thinking in the context of play.

 

The Amazeum facility includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space and one acre of outdoor exhibition and activity space. The museum is located at the intersection of Museum Way and J Street in Bentonville, AR.

 

Position Summary

The Retail Store Associate at the Scott Family Amazeum will be outgoing, flexible and detail-oriented, able to greet guests and readily assist them in the museum store, and other areas as needed. This team member should have the ability to take the initiative and prioritize multiple competing tasks; demonstrate excellent time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Greet and assist all museum guests; effectively handle questions, sales, service, and payment for all products.
  • Actively explore and learn about merchandise carried in the store, and be readily available to share product information with guests and other team members.
  • Engage guests by demonstrating products and explaining their features and benefits.
  • Assist in merchandising product and aligning store merchandise with special programming and exhibits in the museum.
  • Acquire and demonstrate knowledgeable about the museum, its history, programs, and special events, and effectively communicate this information to guests.
  • Assist guests using kiosks; troubleshoot technical issues and report unresolved issues to lead staff.
  • Receive products and manage inventory, ensuring accurate stock levels and timely restocking.
  • Perform back-of-house administrative support, including routine office tasks (e.g., separating coupons, filing, copying, etc.).
  • Represent the Amazeum in a professional manner at all times, including adherence to department standards.
  • Participate in product demonstrations to enhance guest engagement and drive sales.
  • Willingness to cross-train in Museum Store Functions, Birthday Celebrations, and Admissions.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Provide the necessary documentation to prove that you are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or foreign national with authorization to work in the United States
  • Complete and pass a background check

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain standing and actively engaged on the sales floor for extended periods.  (Shifts can be up to 8 hrs at a time.)
  • Frequent walking, bending, lifting, reaching, crouching, and repetitive motion with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds independently (e.g., product boxes, supplies).
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify product details and respond to guest needs.
  • Manual dexterity to operate POS systems, mobile devices, and merchandising tools.
  • Comfortable working in environments with variable noise levels and moderate indoor/outdoor temperature fluctuations.
  • Ability to safely navigate tight retail spaces and public areas that may involve interaction with strollers, children, or group visitors.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to manipulate objects with fingers and hands, stand, walk, reach, bend and stretch.
  • Ability to read, work at a computer, process information required.
  • Ability to work in an environment with moderate to excessive noise.

 

Preferred Skills:

 

  • Previous experience working in a retail environment, particularly in a museum or educational setting.
  • Familiarity with Shopify or other point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and processes.
  • Experience with inventory management and product receiving.
  • Ability to demonstrate products and effectively communicate their features and benefits to guests.
  • Knowledge of merchandising techniques and strategies.
  • Previous experience providing administrative support, including tasks such as filing, copying, and data entry.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to kiosks and other store technology.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Bilingual 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for working in a museum setting and contributing to an enriching guest experience.
  • Strong, outgoing, interpersonal skills with the ability to engage guests of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Understanding of guest engagement principles and practices, beyond transaction processing.
