Performs maintenance and repair HVAC functions at all METRO facilities. Performs preventative maintenance inspections and diagnoses problems. Performs general repairs to property and equipment. Installs, repairs, services, trouble shoots, adjusts, calibrates all refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation systems and controls at all METRO facilities and properties. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities And Specific Duties
Maintains METRO Facility by repairing, fabricating, installing, painting, striping lots and other related maintenance work as required.
Assess METRO Facility via visual inspections, for damage and hazardous conditions.
Performs maintenance as required; fills potholes, spreads asphalt, concrete, crushed rock, etc.
Maintains and repairs all air compressors including portable and stationary shop compressors.
Performs installations, repairs, trouble shooting, and alterations to all refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation systems, air handlers, coolers, controls and duct work.
Charges and evacuates refrigeration and a/c systems, and balances air handling system.
Reads and interprets refrigeration, A/C and ventilation prints, schematics, control circuits, and diagrams.
Completes and submits material and equipment requirements.
Cleans, maintains, and services all fans, motors, filters, water towers, dampers, louvers, coils and pumps.
Lubricates and oils assigned equipment. Cuts and threads all types of piping and sweat tubing.
Able to solder, braze, weld, cut, and thread all types of piping and tubing.
Notifies supervisor of malfunctioning equipment.
Assists other trades and moves equipment as required.
Maintains inventory of refrigeration and A/C supplies and equipment.
Must be available for emergencies, required overtime, varied work schedules and shifts.
Cleans assigned areas and equipment.
Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers
Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
Performs other job-related duties as required. Pay Rate: $30.49
Education Requirement
High school diploma or equivalent.
Years & Experience Required
Three (3) years’ experience as a Refrigeration-Air Conditioning Mechanic. Demonstrated ability in all phases of refrigeration and air conditioning.
Knowledge & Skills Required
Valid State of Texas Driver’s License. Valid State of Texas TDLR Registered Technician- AC Technician. Valid EPA Section 608 – Universal Technician Certification. Good working knowledge of HVAC codes. Able to complete/fill-out written reports, records and forms. Able to maintain and/or obtain additional licensing or certifications as required

About Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County
The Texas State Legislature authorized the creation of local transit authorities in 1973. In 1978, Houston-area voters created METRO and approved a one-cent sales tax to support its operations. METRO opened for business in January 1979. The Authority has transformed a broken bus fleet into a regional multimodal transportation system.
Communities that are part of the METRO area include the cities of Houston, Bellaire, Bunker Hill Village, El Lago, Hedwig Village, Hilshire Village, Humble, Hunters Creek, Katy, Missouri City, Piney Point, Southside Place, Spring Valley, Taylor Lake Village and West University Place.
