Export Compliance Officer at Hidden Level 

 

Position Overview:

Hidden Level is transforming airspace safety with innovative, scalable drone detection and airspace technology. We provide real-time, actionable data to enhance security across various environments.

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Export Compliance Officer (ECO) will be responsible for overseeing, implementing, monitoring, and maturing an export compliance program for the Company, in addition to general compliance and ethics guidance.   

An independent and seasoned professional that will balance regulatory requirements with business needs and proactively collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure compliance and meet objectives. 

Experience with Facility Clearances, Secure Facility Accreditations, and other security compliance needs preferred. 

Location: The position will be in Syracuse, NY or remote in Washington, D.C. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Form collaborative relationships with stakeholders to proactively identify and mitigate export issues.
  • Identify and manage new regulatory risks.
  • Provide advice on customs obligations, import limitations, licensing requirements, carnets, or other customs clearance and international shipment concerns and requirements; facilitate compliance.
  • Keep abreast of export compliance rules, regulations, policies and procedures; communicate changes to appropriate personnel
  • Compliance program implementation and execution activities to include:
    1. Reviewing policies and procedures and filling any gaps
    2. Implementing Training program
    3. Expand existing monitoring systems.
    4. Review Due Diligence processes and identify/fill any gaps.
    5. Conduct Risk Assessments and brief leadership on recommendations.
    6. Ensure appropriate governance of the overall compliance program.
  • Identify activities requiring Technology Control Plans, Non-Disclosure Agreements, or other internal compliance documentation including documentation related to visitors and proposed hires

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Able to interpret USG provisos and limitations.
  • Ability to effectively interface with all levels both independently and as a contributing team member.
  • Familiarity with commodity jurisdiction and classification processes
  • Familiarity with license application processes
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Self-motivated and holds self highly accountable for excellent performance.
  • Natural curiosity and interest in the law and national security

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of experience working in US Govt regulatory environment which must include direct experience with the following regulations: Export Administration Regulation (EAR), International Traffic in Arms (ITAR), Foreign Military Sales (FMS)
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong aptitude for problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Experience identifying risks/opportunities and presenting to leadership.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Legal background
  • US Certified Export Control Officer
  • Facility Security Officer (FSO) experience
  • Experience with FCC, NISPOM and NIST regulations a plus

 

Compensation and Benefits: Hidden Level offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid parental leave, flexible time off, 401(k) with employer contributions, life insurance, disability insurance, and potential stock options.

Salary Range: The anticipated salary range for this position based out of Syracuse, NY is estimated at $125,000 to $160,000 annually.   Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Hidden Level considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
