Energy Management Systems Program/Analyst – CAN BE FILLED AT HIGHER LEVEL (Hybrid Schedule)
This position primarily is responsible for maintaining and developing SDG&E EMS computer software. The primary function of the EMS is to monitor and control the SDG&E’s Bulk Power transmission system. Monitors all EMS workstations and servers and interpret the logs, on 5 different systems namely, primary EMS (MCC,) backup EMS (BCC,) Quality Assurance System (QAS,) Dispatcher Training Simulator (DTS) and PI reporting system, on a 24X7 basis, to ensure the system’s compliance with NERC CIP requirements. Make continuous improvements to EMS systems to ensure the SDG&E grid control center has necessary tools to sufficiently operate the SDG&E transmission grid. Contribute in developing new, enhanced and improved applications and monitoring software to improve the reliability and availability of SDG&E transmission grid operations. Work on maintaining the SDG&E’s real-time EMS (Energy Management System), including system upgrades, integration, databases, and software and applications support.
Senior Engineer – Civil Site Development (Hybrid Schedule)
Position will be filled on the Civil Site Development team.
Develops and implements utility system capital improvement projects, such as design and construction of substations, overhead or underground electric transmission or distribution systems, or gas transmission and distribution systems. Duties may include renovation of, and maintenance planning for existing facilities. Work includes participation with multidisciplinary project teams in planning, preliminary concept development, and detailed engineering design and bidding stages. Conducts preliminary surveys and prepares schematics and work drawings for the construction and maintenance of utility structures and facilities. Examines and approves engineering drawings and design calculations for utility structures and facilities to ensure compliance with sound engineering practices and applicable codes and standards; incorporates functional requirements into project designs. Writes scopes of work for consultant engineering contracts. Estimates cost of projects; writes contract scopes and specifications for lump sum or T&E construction projects; secures bids from contractors. Conducts periodic inspections of work in progress and advises construction supervisors and contractors on plans and specifications. Inspects existing utility structures and prepares reports on the condition, deficiencies observed, designs necessary for repairs and estimated cost of repairs. Reviews invoices for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contracts; approves invoices for payment.
Senior Engineer (Hybrid Schedule)
Takes responsibility for playing a vital role in SDG&E’s distribution planning team, including applying established distribution planning criteria and using sound utility engineering practices to identify capacity deficiencies in the distribution system. Leads and conducts complex technical studies including but not limited to load flow analysis, DER and load forecasting studies and interconnection studies. Develops scoping documents for complex distribution capacity upgrade projects and propose solutions for identified distribution grid needs falling outside of established distribution planning criteria, including recommendations for new distribution circuits/substations and upgrade/replacement of existing distribution substation transformers and equipment. Supports strategic initiatives within the department and serves as subject matter expertise (SME) in internal and external discussions pertaining to the distribution planning process (DPP). May represent the team and SDG&E in discussions with other utilities and in front of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and other active proceeding stakeholders.
Fleet Maintenance Technician (Various Locations)
Responsible for the overall maintenance and repair of the company light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles, construction vehicles, work equipment, and the security of Company assets assigned to the garage. Responsible for the appropriate use of company resources while maintaining compliance with all governmental regulations and corporate policies and procedures; perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Distribution Lineman- FMCSA (Various Locations)
- Work on poles up 100 feet and Steel Structures on lines up to 230 kilovolts (kV).
- Use of Live Line Tools up to 69 kV and rubber gloving method may be used up to 12 kV.
- May work from bucket of aerial lift truck. Will operate mechanized line truck or other trucks. Install electric meters rated less than 200 amperes.
- Install and maintain electric service lines and metering equipment, primary and secondary voltages.
- Install and make repairs to Overhead and Underground lines carrying primary and secondary voltages.
- Install wood, steal, concreate, and fiberglass poles.
- Install fuses, services drops and electric meters.
- Operate line switches.
- On new installations, climb poles and attach building service wires to overhead electric distribution lines and install electric meters. Connect service wire leads, insert fuses and test meter for proper voltage and operation.
- Install cross arms, insulators, conductors, switches, transformers and other equipment on both overhead and underground system.
- Requires standing climbing gaffs and steel pole climbing required.
- Lift onto mounting bolt from belt height an assembled 10-foot crossarm weighing 80 pounds with hardware while standing in climbing gaffs on pole supported by body belt and safety strap Open or remove substructure covers – rectangular metal handhole “door” or round metal manhole cover up to 108 pounds (lifting tool for manhole)
- Pull load break elbow from pad mount or rack-mounted equipment using hot-stick.
- Lift and carry 60–75-pound tools, materials or equipment from ground to truck bed.
- Work in a variety of terrain, weather and other conditions including temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Periodically work extended overtime shifts.
Transmission Lineman- NBHQ
- Must be a Journeyman Lineman possessing IBEW Journeyman Lineman status in good standing.
- Journeyman electrical worker that has completed an accredited apprenticeship program required.
- Must be able to do heavy manual labor lifting a minimum of 60-75 pounds.
- Will be required to work on steel and wood structures.
- Prior climbing experience is required.
- Must have demonstrated ability to absorb formal training and schooling.
- Must demonstrate & maintain good safety habits.
- Will be required to obtain & maintain a Class A CA Driver’s license.
- Must be able to obtain Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) card.
