Position Summary

As an integral member of the Planning team and under the direction of the Director, Planning, the MANAGER PROJECT PLANNING takes a leadership role in the management, organization and orchestration of all aspects of planning for a portfolio of hospital renovation projects. The successful candidate will lead a team of Project Managers and work closely with the FM-PRO Leadership, UHN Executive Project Sponsors and Staff to understand and plan for Capital project initiatives.

 

Duties

  • Develop and implement strategies to manage a team of Project Managers to plan renovation projects including scope definition, oversight of functional programming, schematic design, design development and successfully transition to the Redevelopment team for implementation
  • Effectively manage the user group planning process including stakeholder engagement and driving user acceptance and sign-offs at critical stages
  • Develop, organize and orchestrate resourcing and strategies for managing portfolio of planning projects, address escalated project or portfolio challenges to ensure progression of projects
  • Hire, supervise, manage performance, coach, mentor, motivate and develop the team
  • Perform and review project portfolio financial management activities
  • Review and approve project documentations, including changes to contractual agreements with vendors and clients, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide a supportive role throughout the project planning life cycle, including keeping abreast of project status and risks to address and ensure satisfaction of project parameters and client expectations
  • Perform administrative responsibilities to ensure the efficient operation of the department
  • Perform cross-functional duties as assigned and/or requested

Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognized Architectural, Engineering, Design Technology Degree or Diploma or recognized equivalent required
  • Minimum seven (7) years related experience in project or program management required
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in managing direct reports including hiring, supervision, performance management, mentoring, motivating and developing direct reports
  • Experience in leading the planning for hospital or healthcare renovation projects preferred
  • Experience with multiple stages of the Ministry of Health (Ontario) Capital Planning Process preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills – convey ideas clearly and concisely to the team and other stakeholders, escalating and presenting to Senior Leadership and Steering Committees
  • Excellent problem recognition and resolution skills - identify risks and develop mitigation plans, identify root cause of problems and implement solutions, document lessons learned for team learnings
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills – manage time to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, balance competing priorities and adjust plans as needed
