Description

Pharmacists Mutual Insurance has an opening for a Veterinary Risk Management Representative. This role will serve the enterprise as a resource to provide veterinary technical expertise, risk prevention and control of risks impacting members and the Company.  They may be called upon to perform duties that include evaluating risk faced by members and providing training.

Risk Management Representative

  • Assists in projects that impact the way the enterprise manages risk.
  • Evaluates low complexity risks for our members independently.  May require assistance with risks of moderate complexity.
  • Requires limited direction from manager.

Senior Risk Management Representative

  • Leads projects that impact the way the enterprise manages risk.
  • Independently evaluates low to high complexity risks for our members. 
  • Requires little to no direction from Manager.
  • Must demonstrate a history of high-quality work and is capable of setting a positive example to others within the department.

Essential Functions

Essential Function may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Stays abreast of current events in the veterinary industry and facilitates the provision of information internally and externally. 
  • Conducts research of accounts using both internal and external resources. Research account background, industry and technical information as part of preparation for site visits and meetings.
  • Acts as a trainer and brand ambassador for the Company by building relationships internally and externally.
  • Reviews questionnaires as required for internal desk review of accounts.
  • Assist members in correcting control deficiencies by developing recommendations, providing consultation and supplying necessary tools and resources as a value-added service.
  • Respond to inquiries from members, sales partners, underwriters and management and provide information, analysis and support as required.
  • Monitor federal and state regulations and industry standards for the veterinary industry.
  • Timely completion of assignments with documentation to support all activities
  • Assist with Risk Management Intels and publish/post as scheduled; maintain the veterinary section of the risk management center (RMC) with pertinent information.
  • Assist in the development, scheduling, and presentation of Veterinary Risk Management topics to colleges, universities, associations, and other interest groups.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in veterinary industry standards, processes, and risk management.
  • Functional knowledge of hazards and controls associated with veterinary operations.
  • Maintains technical proficiency through continuing education, maintenance of technical designation(s) and independent work.
  • Ability to utilize computer and related software effectively.
  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.
  • Skills in Microsoft office computer programs.
  • Ability to conduct independent research using internet.
  • Possesses inductive and deductive reasoning skills to interpret information and communication skills to effectively share results verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and understand regulatory compliance regulations and respond to technical inquiries.
  • Ability to use initiative and apply innovative thinking.
  • Ability to provide quality member service.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment through written and oral communication.
  • Ability to work independently to make critical decisions and analyze complex issues
  • Contribute effectively to the accomplishment of all goals and objectives.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations.
  • Obtain and utilize sensitive information discreetly and objectively.
  • Maintain records; prepare reports/correspondence related to the work.
  • Read, interpret, and input data efficiently and accurately.
  • Determine when to escalate concerns to the appropriate level of management.
  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.
Qualifications

Experience and Education Qualifications

Risk Management Representative

  • HS Diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience; or
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent and 3 years of related experience; or
  • Bachelor's Degree

Senior Risk Management Representative

  • HS Diploma or equivalent and 7 years of related experience; or
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent and 5 years of related experience; or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of related experience; or
  • Master's Degree

Special Requirements, Licenses and Certificates

  • Licensure as a veterinary technician or veterinarian
  • Minimum of 5 years working in a Veterinary facility

Preferred Qualifications

All levels:

  • Prior experience working for an insurance company
