Job description

Our client, a globally renowned pharmaceutical company, is looking for a CloudOps Engineer to support the development and deployment of scalable cloud-based workflows powering scientific research and drug discovery.

This is an exciting opportunity to help operationalize cutting-edge research by building infrastructure that enables scientists to run large-scale data analysis with confidence, speed, and compliance.

About the Project

The client’s engineering team is building a powerful cloud-native platform that processes petabytes of multi-modal scientific data—from genomics to imaging—used in biomarker discovery, drug safety evaluation, and target identification.

As a CloudOps Engineer, you’ll help ensure these complex pipelines run reliably, securely, and efficiently on hybrid infrastructure (on-premise + AWS). You'll work side by side with software engineers, bioinformaticians, and researchers to bring robustness and automation to scientific computing at scale.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and optimize execution of Nextflow pipelines for large-scale scientific workloads.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD workflows (e.g., Jenkins) for infrastructure and pipeline deployments.

  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.

  • Integrate AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, Batch, ECS, RDS, KMS) into production pipelines.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize pipeline performance on HPC and cloud environments.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure security, compliance, and reproducibility.

Requirements
Must-Have Skills
  • 3+ years of experience in DevOps, CloudOps, or Site Reliability roles

  • Experience with AWS infrastructure and services

  • Skilled in CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins) and IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation)

  • Scripting skills (Python, Bash) and working knowledge of Linux environments

  • Strong troubleshooting, automation, and documentation abilities

Nice-to-Have
  • Exposure to bioinformatics or life sciences data workflows

  • Strong hands-on expertise with Nextflow pipeline execution, debugging, and maintenance

  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm)

  • Familiarity with monitoring tools, logging, and system reliability practices

  • Understanding of FAIR data principles and regulatory data standards in healthcare

Benefits
  • Be part of a globally recognized pharmaceutical company.
  • Work on infrastructure that directly accelerates life-saving drug discovery.
  • Collaborate with global teams of scientists, researchers, and engineers.
  • Be part of a mission-driven project combining cloud tech and life sciences.
  • Gain experience working on hybrid HPC/cloud environments at scale.

  • Remote in EU.
  • Engage in meaningful projects leveraging innovative technologies.
  • Enjoy the flexibility of a freelance B2B contract.
